Denny's FREE Breakfast Today: Free Grand Slam At Locations Nationwide For Second Straight Year

A Denny's free breakfast is being given out today, Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Denny's locations across the country.

The promotion involves one free Grand Slam per customer and no coupon is required. It lasts from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

The meal comes with two pancakes, two eggs, two sausage links, and two bacon strips. It typically costs about $6.

Why the Denny's free breakfast?

It's the annual Super Bowl promotion of course.

Last year Denny's had its first ever Super Bowl spot promoting the offer. The restaurant ended up giving out more than 2 million free meals.

Denny's is also giving out a free hamburger and fries for the first 500,000 to sign up for the Denny's Rewards Program.

Those who make the trip should expect long lines.

It would be nicer if they saved the give away for the jobless people right now. People will remember who fed them when they get back on their feet. You can't put a price tag on that kind of loyalty.

For Denny's to offer free meals only to people who could prove they are unemployed would possibly be a bigger challenge than to offer it to everyone who shows up. Then you might have people getting denied their free meal because their documention was insufficient and they would probably hold a grudge against Denny's for a long time.

I think Denny's did the right thing in offering it to everyone, knowing that the truly needy might be more inclined to take advantage of the free offer.

However, I am disappointed in some of the comments on this topic because, instead of thanking Denny's for this nice gesture that cost Denny's millions of dollars, the armchair cynics will belittle the company or the food. They should be ashamed of themselves, but they won't be.
