Michelle Obama Wears Talbots, Loves Burgers And Fries (VIDEO)

First Posted: 04/11/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:30 PM ET

On Tuesday Michelle Obama will announce a "very ambitious" program to end childhood obesity. She sat down with Robin Roberts for an interview that aired on Tuesday morning's Good Morning America. Watch the clip below.

"I love burgers and fries. And I love ice cream and cake," said the first lady. "And so do most kids. And we're not talking about a lifestyle that excludes all that. The question is how do we help people balance that out so that they're not facing life-threatening preventable illnesses so they're enjoying their food, they're eating their vegetables, they're doing their running and walking and playing but still have time to get a good fun meal in once in a while."

The first lady wore an all-white Talbots suit--possibly inspired by the weekend's mid-Atlantic snowstorm?--with tall tan boots.

She was articulate and lovely as always. Loved her hair and her outfit.

This outfit was perfect for her, one of her best.

If only she would dress nicely and appropriately more often.

The First Lady is trying to do an amazing thing for kids, I found more pics and video for her childhood obesity initiative :-)

MO says that she loves burgers & fries ... ice cream & cake ... yet she wants our children to eat healthy. Are the children of America supposed to emulate her eating habits? Her message is contradictory to her own life-style.

did you even watch the video or are you slow? she said kids can still eat such things once in a while as long as they also exercise, play, eat their veggies, etc.

FLOTUS always does us proud! She's so smart, so dedicated to promoting healthy kids, and so warm - what a lady! And I lovelovelove this sleek bob hairstyle - the most flattering I've ever seen her wear.

Burgers....Oh my. Michelle darling, are you aware of the disparities amongst African American and cancer compared to others...especially colon cancer. They even changed the starting age for AA's to 40 from 50, because AA's are not only more prone to getting colorectal cancer, AA's are more likely to not survive if they do get it even with treatment. And beef....BEEF....nooooooooooooooooooo! You both need colonoscopies.

I think you need to do some more research on the history of health care disparities before making a simple-minded assumption that eating meat is the only cause of cancer rates among African-Americans. As a group, African Americans have less access to routine medical care and are subjected to increased rates of stress for virtually their entire lifespan. Even correcting for educational and class status, blacks still die from cancer at higher rates than their white counterparts irrespective of diet. In addition, blacks are more likely to live in areas that are environmentally compromised and lack access to quality sources of nutrition. I realize PETA's a little too busy with spray painting celebrities to actually put together well-thought out position papers on the subject, but I for one am tired of silly bourgeoisie pushing their agenda du jour with no real commitment to solving the issue, nor to people of color.

So no, going veggie will not stop black people from dying of cancer at higher rates -- universal health care and the eradication of medical racism and implicit bias in the exam rooms of America might give blacks a fighting chance to win the war on cancer.

Actually I am somewhat of an authority on colorectal cancer and its causes, and beef is the #1 thing you can eat that once had a face that causes COLORECTAL CANCER, with a 40% higher incidence in blacks, and a 40% higher incidence of death from that cancer if it goes past a Stage 1. Why would you assume my post was saying beef is the Only cause of colorectal cancer in blacks? As far as your other arguments for blacks getting cancer? Everything you cited can be said for poorer white people and latino people and asian people, ALL people who make it to this country and eat the tainted and poisoned foods we are offered, approved by an FDA that is virtually a revolving door to and from Monsanto.

Love the white suit, maybe the boots are okay in person, but in this picture they look like some sort of 'mummy' wrappings..either that or she's channeling her inner pole dancer...
I live in stylish NYC and have seen few of those boots, except on the very young and skinny {with short skirts}.. although Lady GaGa and Rhianna seem to wear them well. They seem a bit over the top for someone of MO's standing. imho

Hmmmm..."channeling her inner pole dancer"...??? That's quite a bit harsh (quite disrespectful) for our First Lady, IMO.

I love the boots. I also think she looks fabulous in white.

Oh. WELL. Mrs. Obama doesn't live in "stylish" NYC so she therefore must not know how to truly dress. She also doesn't slavishly follow what's been decreed as "stylish" by whomever. How dare she not follow The Rules!

When they were on the campaign trail, it was said that Mrs Obama was a vegetarian and that they ate a lot of pasta dishes. Read after the presidency that she now "loves hamburgers and french fries". That must be their effort to appear to be "average, middle class Americans".

Not true. She said all along, when asked about her diet, said "I'll eat a piece of bacon every once in a while".

She knows moderation. Good for her, and let us all take an example from her. :)

Hmmm, it's very interesting how some in here, instead of simply commenting on this worthwhile cause the First Lady is initiating, can't resist taking shots at her. Very telling. Sad, sad, envious people. Anyway, I just finished watching her speak on C-span2, she is a very remarkable speaker, no mysterious palm etchings in sight! I can't wait to see her on Larry King tonight!

I hope she addresses two other obesity factors:

(1) Agriculture Big Business - it is difficult for most families to obtain food that is not adulterated with corn-products, hormones and antibiotics. Everyone can't obtain or afford organic foods. Everyone can't have a personal garden.

(2) Neighborhood safety - there are many parts of the country where it is physically unsafe to be outside of home, work, or school. Neither kids or adults are able to walk, run or play outdoors.

I agree with you. I live in the South. I grew up lower middle-class, money was always an issue. There were times we ate fatback and grits for dinner. I have lived in a poor urban area and have seen what was "normal" in the grocery store there. Salted mullet. Fatback. Chips and pork rinds. All cheap, and all bad for you. Healthy food has always been too expensive.

But, it is possible to get healthier without going organic. I "rebelled" against my Southern fatness as a teen. I spent $2.00 on a pair of tennis shoes at Kmart and spent my free time at the high school track. I taught my mom how to cook broccoli. I lost 40 pounds over 2 years in my two-dollar sneaks eating broccoli and canned spinach and baked perch and hot dogs (plain, steamed, no more than 2 in a meal). It is possible to be healthier even if you're stuck in a limited environment. That's what people need to know the most.

I love you for working so hard to eat smart and stay healthy - I don't know how you could handle the canned spinach, though...all I had growing up was canned or typically southern cooked-to-death veggies, and I hated them all - specially spinach. Then I grew up and discovered fresh veggies, and even frozen which are so much better than canned. Spinach is now my favorite salad green....and I love it with some baked fish!

Good cause. There's too many children missing out on their childhood due to obesity.
