Hedge Fund Manager Sues To Keep $380/Month Rent At His Park Avenue Apartment

A monetarily secure hedge fund manager is suing to keep his rent on Park Avenue rock bottom. Though Ross Haberman could afford the increase (which could be as much as thirty times what he's paying now) his lawyer says he shouldn't have to since he was willed the apartment by his late grandpa, real-estate legend Louis Katz.

It's not that I hate the rich. It's that they always find a way to get by on the cheap while others pick up the tab. In this case Grandpa, a REAL ESTAE LEGEND, somehow fixes the price. I told you before. They pass it on , pass it on, pass it on. Eventually, it gets to this guy, who probably never worked as hard as Grandpa, but sure learned how to work it.

It's not because of rent control. His family owned the building at one point and set aside these units for the children. The rent is controlled by contract in this case, and I have to side with the guy here--it's not his fault, and I wouldn't want to pay more either if the only argument is "It's not fair."

Hate? I think it is hilarious to see a rich person suing for such a ridiculous amount and inventing such excuses when rent control is supposed to help people of lower income stay in the city.

does NY allow rent controlled apartments to be passed to heirs other than spouse or children living in the apartment?
