78 Percent Of 'GOP Leaders' Believe Obama Is A Socialist: Esquire

EDITOR'S NOTE: The story below includes references to polling conducted by the firm Research 2000. The reliability and accuracy of Research 2000's polling has since been called into serious question by a report published in June 2010 by a group of statistical analysts.

A full 78 percent of "Republican leaders" believe that President Obama is a socialist, according to a new poll conducted by Esquire magazine.

The magazine says that the survey's respondents include high-profile politicos such as current and former members of Congress, former Cabinet officials, state elected officials, county party chairmen, and "GOP bigwigs from across the country." But the findings should be considered with a large grain of salt -- only 75 individuals were interviewed for the survey, all on the condition of anonymity.

Set for official release on February 16, the magazine's survey represents a confirmation of sorts of the prevalent distaste for Obama that exists within the Republican Party. Earlier in the month, Daily Kos/Research 2000 released its own survey of GOP voters. And of the more than 2,000 self-identified Republicans interviewed for that survey, 63 percent said the president is a socialist (16 percent are not sure, 21 percent say he is not).

It should be noted that the group surveyed by Esquire does not seem to come from the fringes of the party, at least based on their answers to other questions in the survey. Three out of every four respondents, for example, said the primary responsibility for Republicans should be to promote fiscal responsibility; only six percent said social conservative values should guide the GOP. Eighty-seven percent of respondents said that so-called "birthers" are the fringe of the Republican Party, only 12 percent said they are the mainstream. Sixty-seven percent said they would consider supporting a pro-choice candidate in a local, state, or national election; 33 percent said they would not.

With that as a basis, here are some other remarkable data points taken from Esquire's survey:

Given the opportunity to expel one member from the GOP, 30 percent said Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME), seven percent said Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), 15 percent said former Secretary of State Colin Powell, and 15 percent called for the ouster of bombastic conservative talk show host Glenn Beck.

Pressed to choose which prospective Republican presidential candidate they'd like to see head the ticket in 2012, 31 percent said former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, 13 percent said current Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and 12 percent said former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

As for Obama, 70 percent of Esquire's respondents said they thought Bill Clinton was a better president. Twenty-nine percent of respondents said Obama might be the "worst president we've ever had."

According to Esquire, the survey, which is part of its March issue, was conducted over the "course of six weeks last fall and administered with a guarantee of anonymity to all participants."

Its truly a very sad day that when the President of The united States is shaping policies for the benefits of the American people he/she is perceived to be socialist. Wouldn't they all want to be so lucky to be considered such. strange country we live in.

This is NOT news.

After all, the same percentage of GOP right-wingers still believe that the World is Flat, denies Evolution and Climate change.

We have to create an entirely NEW IDEA for them to also deny.

Anybody out there got a new idea?

If these policies- that the majority of the civilized world embraces- are socialism- then we need to get rid of republicanism right away- it is an unbearable deterrent to progress.
By the way- did you see the Daily Show's segment on the Republicans in Hawaii? Priceless!

With all due respect for the concept of bipartisanship with Republicans...I really don't give a s**t what they think. Supporters of our president and our government have endured verbal attacks from these right-wingnuts on his heritage, citizenship, ethnicity, his wife and daughters. Personally, I have grown tired and bored of these racial arsonists and racists imposing on the orderly functioning of our government and it's true leaders. Until they decide to lift and carry some of the weight that are the issues we are facing as a country...they can bend over and kiss their devisive, obstructionist a**es goodby!!

The only "Socialist" and/or "Fascist" I see are the insuranceMafia/Cartels who force medical forclosures and death on ill patients whose insurance benefits have run out or been denied.

These Corporations benefit only themselves to the detriment of physical harm, emotional harm and financial harm among 2/3 of Americans WITH insurance.

If President Obama wants bipartisanship with the health-cartel mercenaries , we are all in big trouble.

The Redical Right Wing Republican Totallitarians (as in the definition of Fasciims) are so radically extreme right that everyone else looks Socialist to them.

This is just One of the Republican Single Word Slogans of Demonization since Liberal has lost its PUNCH.

Socialism is when the Utiltiies are owned by the State. German & other corporations own the water we drink, British ones have significant holdings in our electric utilities...and Obama has not made a single move to nationalize them.

When the Republicans were in charge we had A DICTATORSHIP....Where the Executive Branch had 100% control of the Legislative branch IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE THE REPUBLICAN Legislature
doing ***ZERO** oversight!

It is the same s..bags who did not do oversight over their boy "W" (The unelected Junta) who After the Democrats RESTORED MINORITY PARTY RIGHTS....Are now Filibustering everything.

But Reality matters for their Brainwashed base...who are now repeating the UNINFORMED LIE that "The Republicans didn't have enough votes to filibuster until Scott Brown" (A bull artist and
porn star).

That seems to work as a tool for demonization. First it was the anarchists, then the communists, then the socialsits and now the liberals. Going back to socialist feeds into the proppaganda for the right and serves to split the liberals from labor. What could be better for the far right than that?

In reality,
Emmanual, Geitner, Summers, Goldman Sachs, the Clintons, etc.

NAFTA, WTO, failed financial reform, failed health care, failed employee free choice act and a neocon foreign policy with expanded war..

Reaching out to the reps for far too long for no further reason. .

Looks like corporate lite to me.

$750 million in campaign contributions call for some degree of compromise, but this is absurd. Obama is an instrument of capital and, apprently, proud of it.

Republicans HATE OUR Government....Why would anybody vote for people to run an institution they hate! Yet, 8 of the last 11 administrations have been Republican....12 of the last 15 years..

What keeps me up at night is that Working Class people...those most severely harmed by the IMPLEMENTATION of Republican ideologies are being brainwashed 24 hours a day through the Republican controlled information pipelines into voting for the devils who ate their lunch!

As for those who crave "bipartisanship" THIS IS IGNORANCE. Why would anyone crave that
those who have been trying to repair all the PROFOUND DAMAGE....to work with the DEVIL!

REASON: Obama ran on unifying our country in a way that failed to educate the electorate.
Rather than isolatiing the Republicans (who represent the interests of about 5 million
people) and unifying the rest of us...

Also since he did not create the Divisions, THE REPUBLICANS DID (divide TO Conquor like
any petty dictators)...He could not have unified us...since the Divida not Untitas are relentless
Terrorists and Cowards.
01:34 AM on 02/14/2010
If it keeps you up at night then do something about it. When the Republicans were out of power in the 60's and disgraced after Nixon in the 70's they fell back and made plans to get back into power. What you see around us is the result of well funded Republican think tanks that took years to devise and test strategies that would work. The Democrats have just worn their hearts on their sleeves during this time and so are defenseless when confronted with political strategy. We have come to the place where the only Democrat that can build a winning coalition, even after the disgrace of W, is someone who essentially ran on a centrist Republican platform. (Obama) There are no liberal think tanks out there because what corporation would fund something dedicated to their destruction? The answer lies in devising effective liberal strategy and that requires funding and organization. We all need to help move the ball toward that goal. This can be turned around.

"All GOP leaders who hate Socialism are making a living of Socialism, the all get paid by the government they hate, they all get government paid health insurance from the government they hate and they all will receive a government pension from the government they hate, but not one will give up their Socialist benefits from the government they hate.
