No brainer. It's Waltz.

Christof Waltz was brilliant in his role and he captivates you on-screen when he appears. I think he wins it handsdown.

Although I know he won't win, my sentimental favorite is Woody Harrelson. He and Robert Downey Jr are two of my favorite actors and I believe two of our most versatile. Very few actors can move me in a dramatic role and then bring me to tears laughing in their next. I don't know many actors that could have gone from Woody on Cheers to Natural Born Killers to The People vs. Larry Flynt to Kingpin.

Woody Harrelson and Robert Downey Jr make every movie they are in more interesting and although I haven't seen IG yet, from what I have read Christoph Waltz can be added to that list. What I wouldn't give to see the three of them in a movie together.

I agree about Woody and RD Jr. I wonder why Sherlock Holmes didn't receive any oscar kudos.THat was a pretty good flick and cast.

There's usually not this much good work in this catagory. In a perfect world I would love to see a five way tie, but I think it's Christoph Waltz's to lose.

Matt Damon was horrible. Horrible. painful. Bad movie, ridiculous role. He was given so little to do, and did so little with it. The whole thing was like a bad TV movie. Even Freeman was bad. It was the politically correct movie of the year, so with Hollywood who knows what'll happen, but Damon won't be getting up on stage.

Plummer was nommed in the 90's for playing Mike Wallace, of all people, in "The Insider." This current nomination is NOT his first.

Surprisingly, Plummer was not nominated for an Oscar for "The Insider", despite his critical raves for this performance.

Stanley Tucci or Christopher Plummer gets my vote. Not only has either ever given a bad performance in their careers but they both steal every scene they are in.
02:29 AM on 02/14/2010
Waltz hands down. He stole every scene like no other I have ever seen. I couldn't wait for the next scene he was in. If it wasn't for him in this movie, I would not have watched the whole thing. He was mesmerizing!

while i would just love for the guy from cheers to get an oscar, the only true candidates are christoph walz and christopher plummer.

mr. walz plays a n.az.i.

mr. plummer grew a beard and played leo tolstoy in a movie almost nobody saw and almost nobody cares about because it is about leo tolstoy. he has the never got an oscar factor going for him.

matt damon is in his movie just to support morgan getting best actor. the entire film is designed for that single purpose, getting morgan best actor.

stanley is just a tv guy in a thankless role in a dud of a movie.

the na.z.i wins.

Mabe you shoul dstop watching so much TV then because Tucci gave a great perfomance and ian even better in the Julia Child movie, playing it relaxed and supportive of Streep and as supportive of her as his character was as supportive of Julia Child. You didn't see anyone emoting or, unlike somene like Tom Cruise, to get his charcater in line and that's the way it should be even thouhg he intensely reheased that role.

The only performance I saw was that of Waltz in IG, but having admitted that, I don't see how anyone else could win; that may have been the best supporting performance in a decade.

Stanley Tucci. I have had nightmares about his character after watching The Lovely Bones.
