Model Falls At Marc By Marc Jacobs Show On Her Birthday (PHOTOS)

Model Mathilde Frachon marked her 20th birthday with a modeling rite of passage: taking a spill on the Fashion Week runway, at Tuesday night's Marc by Marc Jacobs show.

But Frachon wasn't the only model to stumble on this season's catwalks. Apparently 4 other models fell wearing the same kitten heels at the same show, according to Marc Jacobs President Robert Duffy's now-deleted Twitter account.

And Frachon is in great supermodel company. Agyness Deyn took a trip down Naomi Campbell's "Fashion For Relief Haiti NYC 2010" show on February 12. And here's 15 more models who ended up head over heels.

Runway models desperately need a union!

At the last minute, designers and show directors routinely throw at models footwear that is often ill-fitting and poorly constructed, and in which they have usually not had a chance to practice walking. Even once. Some of the shoes have also been hastily modified---usually heels replaced or cut down---just minutes prior to being featured on the runway. Rarely are shoes worn by runway models actual street shoes right off the rack---oh no---that would be too easy, too common. They have to be objects of art---never mind whether someone can actually safely walk in them. Even for a few steps.

The greatest fear models have is not having private parts exposed due to wardrobe malfunction. It's the embarrassment if not career-ending serious physical injury of a runway fall.

I would be willing to bet any or all are the case with the shoes worn by the model who fell.

This is abuse, people. Models need to unite to stop this and other common fashion industry abuses.

save that crying for someone who cares, then they can give back the $$$$$$$$$$$$ the make, those chicks are rolling in dough while never finishing any schooling...10 minutes of bad shoes are something they can survive

No, Cheechetc. Only the tip top eschelon models make a decent living. There are thousands more smaller market models---even runway models---who are faced with deplorable working conditions we would never tolerate in any other industry.

I know what yo mean about not caring---I'm no fashionista and am really disgusted by a lot of that whole scene. But we all buy clothing, and most of us all at least occasionally pay some attention to styling.

Actors and actresses and other film industry workers were in a similar state decades ago, and they formed a union. That union has been essential in negotiating decent working conditions and fair wages. Same with pro sports players. They were kept on starvation wages (while their labors enriched owners) until they organized.

Models unite!!!!

Why does this merit any coverage at all? Are you going to set up video cams on every corner and post videos of every person to takes a wrong step or blows their nose or ---?
What is the importance or even entertainment value in this?

WHO could possibly care?
