VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Finland forward Teemu Selanne has matched an Olympics record with his 36th career point.
He assisted on his team's opening goal against Belarus on Wednesday.
Selanne has 20 goals and 16 assists in five Olympics. He moves into a four-way tie for career points with Valeri Kharlamov of Russia, Vlastimil Bubnik of the former Czechoslovakia and Harry Watson of Canada.
Olli Jokinen swept in a Saku Koivu's pass to score 3:24 into both team's openers at the Vancouver Games.
There were initial concerns Selanne would not be able to play because of surgery last month for a broken jaw. He returned Feb. 1 and played seven games for the Anaheim Ducks before the NHL's Olympic break.
