COLUMN: National Media Distorts Images Of Muslims

Opinion:

I am ashamed to see the way my faith is being portrayed in mainstream media, and I think the world needs to understand the real meaning of Islam, a word derived from the Arabic concept of "salaam," or peace. With this column, I would like to give you a new perspective of my religion.

The post from shadad once again decries the attacks against musldims in america, how people are being intolerant and hateful towards them. Is this not exactly what your brothers are doing all over the world? Why have you not denounced them PUBLICLY? You portray yourselves as victims, but you do not address the mass victimization of your people, by..... Your people. Muslims the world over trample on religious freedom, freedom of choice and life itself, and be completely silent. If I am ignorant about what real islam is, its because "real muslims" have not lifted one finger to denounce the actions of their brothers, or educate me, or show me what "real islam" is about, but scream to high heaven only when someone, non muslim acts with intolerance and hatred towards them.. I belive you reap what you sow, nd since you have no problem with injustice towards others, then no one will care when injustice is done to you. All you seem to care about is being the victim.

Tell me why I should belive you are pro peace.will'ell me why I should "understand" when your heroes say things like..' I was hoping to kill as many as I could God willng! ' T'ell me why I should "understand" When you are silent when your brothers blow up women and babies and school kids and mourners and weddings and anything positive and normal all over the earth? Tell me.

If "real muslims"were so concerned and ashamed of the way their religion is being portrayed, then why are they so silent when their brothers are killing thousands everywhere around the world? Why is it we only see your muslim brother gathering by the hundreds of thousands to protest and scream about the injustices imposed upon them by america and the west?.. Not a word about the wholesale murder by the taliban, al queda and countless other muslim groups.Not Even in america, where you are free to speak, and where mefdia attention is readily available, we never hear you renounce the slaughter of innocents by your muslim brothers. I, and millions of others have to interpret your silence as implicit support of their actions. I think that you mazy be living the free life in "the west" and secretly cheering your brothers murder of anyone non-muslim across the world. Where are the mass protests against this murderous rampage? Where is the outrage? I think if you were really so ashamed, you would speak out, somewhere, and somehow. I think we would have heard from you "peaceful" muslims, if you really had something to say in support of peace. Dont ask me to understand, when you have done nothing to defend " real" Islam. When you have taken NO stand against the murderers that now represent your religion in the minds of millions.

The national media in America is focus on the new enemy and that is Islam! After 9//11, the focus has been on killing, maligning and jailing Muslims! This distortion has given rise to fire bombings of mosque in the US! Random killing of Muslim going too and coming from the mosque; calling opinionated Muslim leaders as unindictable co-conspirators, firing and discriminating against Muslims in the work place, hate and anti Islamic think tanks popping up across the US, filled with so called experts on Islam, which 99 percent of them can't speak or write in the Arabic language and let alone decipher writings on Islam! These so called experts have misused terms like Jihad and calling freedom fighters terrorist and not understanding what Mujahideen means and the correlations between Jihad and Mujahideen! American Agents and agents provocateurs undercover in masajids in Muslim lands looking for terrorist, when terrorist don't plot terror crimes in the masajid! There is no relationship between the Muslim community and non Muslims in America! With that said, there are good, honest and sincere Americans of all faiths trying to dialog to reach and understanding: The media should reward these efforts but they seldom do!
