Mitt Romney's Fight With A Rapper: LMFAO's Sky Blu Tells Of Plane Attack

Mitt Romney Lmfao Sky Blu

BOSTON — A rapper with the Grammy-nominated club act LMFAO says former Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney first touched him – and not the other way around – during a confrontation aboard an Air Canada flight that was preparing to take off from Vancouver, British Columbia.

Sky Blu, whose given name is Skyler Gordy, says in a video posted Friday on TMZ.com that he was trying to go to sleep when he leaned his seat back in the coach section of a the Vancouver-to-Los Angeles flight Monday. He says Romney loudly told him several times to straighten it, as is required until takeoff under commercial flight regulations.

Then, he says, Romney reached forward and grabbed his shoulder.

"I just react – boom – get off me, you know," Gordy says in the video, taking a swing through the air as he speaks. "And I didn't take it any further than that. I just wanted the man not to touch me; that's it."

Gordy says that Romney's wife, Ann, screamed and that the plane returned to the gate before two police officers escorted him off. After being detained briefly, he was allowed to buy a ticket for another flight.

Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom had no comment Friday about whether Gordy was the man with whom Romney had the confrontation, but aides said this week that Romney told them he thought the other person was in a band.

Christine Wolff at Interscope Records confirmed that Gordy made the video, which also was posted on the group's Web site.

Air Canada referred calls to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Sgt. Rob Vermeulen confirmed there was an incident on the flight, but he refused to release the names of those involved because no one was arrested.

Shortly after the confrontation, Fehrnstrom said the passenger became "physically violent" with Romney, but the former Massachusetts governor did not retaliate and instead let the authorities deal with it.

Gordy says in the video that Romney grabbed him with a "condor grip," as a sidekick play-acts the scene and adds: "Vulcan grip."

Gordy then outlines his objection, saying, "I'm not your prey. I'm not a salmon going upstream. You're not going to rip me up."

The rapper says he was on the flight because he and his group, LMFAO, had been performing in Vancouver, where the Olympic Winter Games are being held. The Romneys were also there as special guests after Mitt Romney's work heading the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City.

Gordy says that after the plane pulled away from the gate, he put a jacket over his head and was trying to go to sleep when he felt "too upright."

After he reclined his seat, he says, he heard Romney say repeatedly and loudly, "Sir, sir, put your seat up."

Gordy says in the video that he pulled off his jacket, wondered whether Romney was being serious and then thought to himself, "If you ask nicely, I'll put it up."

But then things got physical, he says.

LMFAO, composed of Stefan Gordy and nephew Skyler, made their debut last year and are known for party music; they are best known for their club hit "I'm In Miami Trick." They were recently nominated for a Grammy for their debut CD, "Party Rock" and are the opening act on the current Black Eyed Peas tour.

Stefan Gordy is the son of Motown founder Berry Gordy. Skyler is Berry Gordy's grandson.

I would've loved to have traded places with Sky Blu in this particular incident because Mitt Romney would be armless right now had he touched me! Hey Mitt don't forget segregation is over!

I really hope this encounter lets Romney know early that he doesn't have the temprement to run for President, let alone be President.

Remember his during the 2008 Primaries? If some reporter asked a question that contradicted him or pressed him about his ever changing positions, he'd get all snippy and irritable. The guy does not know how to deal with the public.

Mid-air battle of the egos!

I suppose it's fine for a rock-star, but probably not such a good quality in a president.

If he can't even deal with Barry Gordon's kid, how's he going to deal with Ahmadinijad or Kim Jong Il? Is he going to nag them that it's a rule to put their seat up before take off, then have his wife burst out screaming with indignation when they don't listen?

Take the hint, Mitt. You're not populist material.

If the rappers were pink skinned like Mitt, he would not have been aggressive. The organizers must have packed Mitt and his bunch unwillingly in Economy.
This is the second time a pink American is going after brown coloured Americans. The first was in Bus, now its on a Plane, then next will be on?
Why are the older pink male Americans so angry? I dont get it! They have all the privileges.

How do you know Mitt was aggressive? All of the newspaper accounts say he was not? the evidence to the contrary is the biased and self video created several days later by Gordy.

Your use of the phrase "going after" also indicates your underlying bias and prejudice in this matter.

To me it sounds like Gordy was exhibiting "Air Rage" like a typical over privileged American.

Mitt should of asked him to straighten his seat and put the drugs away...drugs are bad

This was Mitts way of getting a cheap upgrade. This rapper was within his rights to recline his seat. The flight attendant will tell him when he can and can't recline, not Mitt. Then Mitt has the nerve to put his hands on the guy, and because his wife screams the "not so famous" rapper is put off the plane. Next time Mitt pay for 1st class, take your private jet but don't fly couch and fake an altercation with a little guy for more leg room for you and the misses.

Romney is nothing but a crybaby rich boy. Please. You fly commercial and coach, you deal with what is around you and not whine about it like a little brat. Anytime I have flown coach, which is often, most of the people are friendly, and don't make a scene if something isn't perfect. Its called, if Mitt didn't like it, he could have made the best of it, ignored it, and dealt with it like a gentlemen. The problem with spoiled little rich boys is that they forgot how to behave and whine when they don't get thier way. How old is the man? I have a 2 year old grand daughter that behaves better on planes than this. Seriously. Like I said, he isn't a nice guy and he sure as hell isn't a professional by any stretch of the imagination.

I have seen how Romney treats the general public and its not nice. Back when he was running for president, I watched as he refused to allow anyone not lilly white attend what was to be an open forum and stump speech held at Dave and Busters in St.Louis. The whole scene was bizarre. His people were like robots, refusing to allow anything of enthnic origin near his speech, so this event does not surprise me at all. He is a jerk, total non professional, cliche of the spoiled rich man, corporate tool. God forbid he he were to run for office and win. It wouldn't be a pretty sight. If you think we still have racism and ineqality now, Hello, you have no idea just how biggotted the man really is. I mean he hates all races, genders, from all walks of life. To the rapper who got abused by this man? Sue the crap out of him, he deserves it.

Sounds like another cocky "rapper" that thinks he is entitled to privileges that us little guys aren''t...like the decades old "seat in the upright position before take-off" rule.

Saying, that he "was trying to go to sleep when he felt 'too upright' " doesn't cut it. Hope his flight on the next plane was a good one...and kudos to Romney for not retaliate against the baby's tirade...
08:02 PM on 02/20/2010
It's Ronmey who is cocky.

Just because he is a politician doesn't mean that he is "better" than anyone else.

If Gordy happened to be white, would he have been excorted off the plane?

Or if Romney had been a black man would the airline crew have gone to the extreme to "protect" him?

Perhaps Romney should have spent his money and sat in first class if he thinks he is too good to be in the company of the "commoners". ................ The coach class is certainly not a roomy area of the plane with little leg room. and Romney (like everyone else) knows that.

Perhaps courtesy instead of arrogance on Romney's part would have gone a long way.

He asked the guy to put his seat up multiple times (like you are supposed to before take off). Why is Romney arrogant for asking that? The guy would have been asked to do the same by the stewardess...would he have jumped all over her too? Sounds like he might just be someone who likes to make a sccene...after all, it is publicity. I never heard of him before this "incident".
Romney is the one that acted correctly...sounds more like you just have a problem with Republicans in general. Maybe you wouldn't be so mad at Romney if he wasn't a white guy...

That's why we don't generally elect rappers to handle delicate diplomatic situations.

Romney as President would also be an epic fail in this area, difference is, Romney is the one hoping to run for President.

Maybe Romney should try his hand at being a rap star. Seems like it would suit his personality better.

Everybody who's ever flown on an airplane knows that you put your seats and tray-tables in their upright position for take-off and landing. Your not special Gordy, putting your seat into somebody's lap when your on the tarmac is a d.ck move, then you put your jacket over your head and ignore their protests, and when they touch you you lash out. now your playing the victim. People flying coach have to get along, be they former presidential candidates or rap stars, wait what?

Yeah, he's ferocious. He grabs people when they're sleeping then his wife shrieks for someone to come help, after Romney starts a fight with his crappy attitude.
12:12 PM on 02/20/2010
This is why there is no benefit to standing up to a white male. A white woman screams and something must be done (btw, a minority woman screams and people think there's a 50-50 chance something is wrong with her). Authorities arrive- they look at and listen to Romney speak first and foremost. I'm sure the accused tried to speak but was given less importance. This only adds insult to injury to the minority; having to be silent while the white male communicates on a peer level with the authorities, the minority, already riled up from the altercation, is even more infuriated. The police/authorities see this as belligerence and throw him off the plane. Romney brushes the dust of his suit jacket, smiles broadly, and knows that this is proof once again the world belongs to him. It hardly matters Romney put his hands on Gordy first.

I tend to agree with what you wrote. But isnt pushing your seat back all the way an imposition on the party right behind you. Perhaps we all should be sensitive to this unfortunate mechanical reality.

Kinda sounds like this guy needs to press charges against Romney for assault.
06:22 PM on 02/20/2010
Yes--just imagine the horrible consequences a touch on the shoulder can have. Hopefully he won't require surgery and months in rehab.

Give me a break.
09:28 PM on 02/21/2010
Yeah, Romney "just touched him on the shoulder" and he "just swatted Romney's hand away" If Romney didn't assault the rapper, how is his swatting the hand away, the same way someone might instinctively react to an insect, an "attack" on Romney?

But guess what, brown guy gets thrown off the plane, white rich guy that started the physical assault gets to stay on the flight.

Why don't you give me a break

This incident occurred i n Canada. They may have different laws about what constitutes assault or more precisely "battery". Merely touching someone on the shoulder is NOT considered a battery in Canada.
