Victoria Beckham Defends Size 0s On 'The View' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 04/20/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:35 PM ET

Another day, another argument in the great model weight debate. Designer Victoria Beckham co-hosted "The View" on Wednesday and talked about the CFDA's new "Health is Beauty" campaign and her own experience dressing all sizes from Blake Lively to Jennifer Hudson. Beckham also had some kind words for the skinniest of models, saying, "I think that some of these girls, most of these girls are naturally thin and I don't think we should be discriminating against someone because they're too thin, too curvy or too large."

I was wearing a size 0 at the age of 61. I wasn't comfortable at that size. I was working in an emergency room and didn't have many opportunities to eat a full meal. Thank God, I went back up to a 6 once I quit the ER.....I think (know) that size 0 is just too small. I'm 5' and I looked anorexic....

There is nothing wrong a little anorexic spree every couple of weeks or so. As long as you bring with you some breast implants to help him cope with all the emotional baggage your bringing in to the relationship. Bulimics are a no-go unless they are able to control when they do their "work out", and if they are able to control stomach acid breath.

With all of the vanity sizing that is happening now, especially in the US, the label in the dress is completely irrelevant. A size 12 in 1955 is a size 4 by today's standards. And an American size 0 is a British size 4. In the US, a size 0 is 33-25-35. I have known several young women who are within this size range, albeit they are more in the 5'4" - 5'8" range and not 6 footers. But still, they are healthy young women who ride their bikes everywhere they go, and who just so happen to be petit. It has nothing to do with anorexic. Different people come in different shapes. So long as you're healthy, who cares what the label in your dress says?

VICTORIA IS VERY PETITE. SHE IS A TINY WOMAN NATURALLY. THAT IS FINE. I AM HAPPY FOR HER BLESSINGS TO BE TALENTED/PRETTY/AND PETITE/AND MARRIED TO A HUNK.

I AM ALSO HAPPY FOR QUEEN LATIFAH: SHE IS BLACK AND FULL-FIGURED AND GORGEOUS, AND TALENTED.

EVERYONE IS SPECIAL IN THEIR OWN WAY.

You're so right. Queen Latifah IS gorgeous and talented. There are other beautiful, above-average women like Camryn Mannheim, Crystal Renn, and Oprah Winfrey. I'm ashamed to say I once thought big couldn't be beautiful, but I was wrong. It turns out the fashion industry just wasn't making beautiful clothes for anyone over a size 8. There are now more fashionable clothes for above average ladies, but they're not showing up on the runways. Beckham should do more than just design clothes for Jennifer Hudson. She should hire Hudson as a model to promote diversity in the industry.

The public's focus should be on fitness, not fatness. Skinny doesn't necessarily equate to fit or anorexic. Overweight doesn't necessarily equate to unfit or gluttonous. I was one of the skinniest kids in my class, and the heaviest kids would pass me on the track. I couldn't even walk a 15 minute mile. My shins and calves would hurt, and I'd get out of breath. I wasn't anorexic. I ate whatever I wanted, but I was out of shape. You couldn't tell by looking at me. I had the body fat of an athlete. I identified more with the heavy kids than the normal size kids, because we had the same problems--unable to keep up in gym, last to be picked for the team, snide comments about our size, and people wondering what we're eating to look like THAT. The extremes of weight are two sides of the same coin. I suppose, though, that the heavier kids have it harder because there are fewer role models of fit, heavy people. Most people don't realize you can be heavy and physically fit. If you can walk a mile in 12 minutes or less, it doesn't matter if you're size 0 or 20. You're a physically fit person.

Thank you for bringing this up. I had a hard time keeping up with the other kids because I was too thin and small.

I was too. When I was 16 and got my driver's license I was 5' 2" and weighed 86 lbs. Everything changed when I hit about 35. I got some curves on me now. Honestly, I prefer the curves. I find them sexier, but that's just me. And most men.

Not so much. All she was doing was acknowledging the fact that some of these woman are naturally thin. I don't see any harm in pointing this out. It's a fact. Some are naturally thin, some are not. The problem lies in the fact that designers tend to design with thin women in mind only, which was aptly pointed out on the show. This post is a non-issue.

Nobdy mentions the fact that as people become larger, the smaller sizes get larger. A size 4 is too big on me now.

What the he// is size zero? A fetus?

As for the naturally thin vs. anorexics/bulimics vs. "everyone else", I was stocky as a child - never fat, but not willowy like the other girls. Turned out there was a reason for that - shortly after I turned 14, I suddenly acquired a bust & hips, going from a 32AA (practically concave) to a 38D in less than 3 weeks (and I have the pictures to prove it). I went from a size 5/6 to a 10/12 that fast. It was a surprise.

The rest of my teens, twenties & early thirties, I could eat anything I wanted, while friends were constantly dieting & mad at me for eating in front of them. A few told me I needed to lose 5 pounds, so I always thought I was too big. Now I look at those size 11Junior jeans & wonder why I listened to them?

Mid thirties, the metabolism slowed & the pounds started packing on. I dieted, tried changing my eating habits for life, got even more active (I was already walking & biking every day), & none of it helped. I finally said to heck with it, started eating normally again, put on a few more punds & have maintained that weight for 20 years.

I happier now, because I'm not always thinking about food (from always being hungry) & I've accepted I won't ever again be a "perfect size 10" again (or whatever that translates into with

I think we should stop focusing on people's weight all together, regardless of what side of the scale they are on.

Looking at the actresses from the 40s, 50s and 60s, they were fat by today's standards. Who can forget Jane Russell and her being a spokesperson for the full-figured bra?

We got to understand that genetics play a huge role in how a person looks, as well as their diet and surroundings. Money will tell one what one can buy in a store. Some folk, particularly in urban areas don't have access to the fresh fruits and vegetables. Grocery stores are too far away for some of them to go.

I have a cousin who eats like a horse, but she is rail thin at 33 years old. I'm on the thick side ranging from a size 16-20 depending on the cut of the pants or dress and health problems. I eat small meals and a lot of fruits and vegetables. I'm finding though that a lot of the sizing depends on how the designer cuts their clothes. One designer's size 18 maybe another's size 16.

I can't wear Walmart shorts or pants because they're cut too small. But I can order the same size from another store or catalogue company and do just fine. I tend to wear bigger sizes to be comfortable.

But I'll go back to my original thought, it's genetics people, genetics.

People during the 40's, 50's and 60's also smoked like chimneys, ate horribly, drank like fish, and fitness wasn't really even on the radar. Raquel Welch was a goddess then, but now bodies like that are everywhere.

I am 5"9" and 125 lbs. I have been naturally thin all my life. I have been a designer size 6 in the past but am a smaller size in things like the Gap.

I get annoyed when women would rather believe I have an eating disorder than be naturally thin.

Just last week a friends girlfriend told him she thought I was anorexic because I didn't eat. I was waiting to eat with someone I had a prior engagement with. He thought it was funny because he knows what a pig I am. Of course she was projecting because she told him she has had problems with it in the past. Keep your issues off of my plate.

It's nothing personal against you. I have seen may thin woman who eat like a pig (your words not mine), but they also threw it all back up too. I think if you've ever had a friend who was bulimic that when you see a super thin woman who eats a lot, you kind of wonder.
