Anthony Stancl, 19, Gets 15 Years For Facebook Sex Scam

Anthony Stancl

WAUKESHA, Wis. — A Wisconsin teen convicted of using Facebook to blackmail dozens of classmates into sex has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Nineteen-year-old Anthony Stancl (STAN'-sihl) of New Berlin showed no emotion as the sentence was handed down Wednesday.

Stancl pleaded no contest in December to two felonies, including repeated sexual assault of a child.

He apologized during sentencing, saying he has learned to understand what his victims went through.

He had faced a maximum 30-year sentence.

Stancl is accused of posing as a girl on Facebook and tricking more than 30 male classmates into sending him naked photos of themselves, then using the photos to blackmail them for sex.

I can't believe that many kids could be forced into gay sex just by the threat of having a naked picture of themselves released. I wouldn't relish the idea of a naked pic of myself getting out, but as a straight man, there's no way in hell I would have sex with another guy. I would let the picture come out.

Dante Stallworth, who was convicted of vehicular manslaughter and DUI, gets 30 days and pays off the family of the victim, and this mentally ill kid gets 15 years. No wonder the scales of justice has someone with a blindfold.

Hadn't heard of Stallworth, but just looked it up...he was only .04 over the alcohol limit and 10 mph over the speed limit, it was daylight, and the victim walked into the middle of the street without using a crosswalk.

Blackmail is a serious crime, and where does it say the kid is mentally ill?

Thank God he didn't murder somebody, otherwise he'd be out in 2 years.

I don't understand equating this guy's actions with the lives of individuals who identify as gay, or who identify as 'questioning' . Many teens and some adults are confused and questioning, but they don't blackmail and force sexual violence on others. To equate him with them does them a disservice, in my opinion. If he was a straight teen who'd frightened and humiliated young girls into have sex with him or risk being (publicly) exposed, would we call it 'typical hetero' behavior? No way. His actions weren't the actions of a 'confused' teen. They were the actions of a violent teen and were about power - as rape usually is.

I do hope he gets the help he needs, but I don't think he deserves less prison time than other predators - who all need psychological care, no matter who their victims are. If he's raped in prison (and I would never wish that on him) THAT won't be 'gay sex' either, as suggested. It will be rape and as vile an act if it happens to him as it was when he forced sex on others.

Okay...so what's the reason for this kid getting 15 years? Spending all that tax money and throwing this kid's life away because he's sick in the head? No, spend that money on some rehab and some serious therapy so he doesn't get butt raped in prison. And those boys are just pissed off that they didn't get that girl he was posing as and made themselves look like idiots. It's fing facebook get OVER IT. Omg, sexual harrassment...oh please - the real crime was the girl who ended up committing suicide over the mother who posed as a boy on myspace. that's a hoax CRIME that deserves life. And what was her (Lori Drew) sentence? Acquitted. Yeah GREAT FING AMAZING.

It's been proven many times that sex offenders can not be rehabilitated. The society may need to figure out a variety of places to put people like this, but locking them up is not a bad idea. Let non violent, not noffenders out to make room for them. Let all whose only offense is drug use out of jail for starters.

There has to be more to this strange story. Why would these kids perform sexual acts (straight guys performing homosexual acts even) just to keep nude pictures of themselves from being published? Next, why would this kid be sentenced 15 years for this? The kid must be much more intimidating in person that his picture reveals.

Sounds like some kind of Republican scam. Like making you angry at the President so you'll go out and Tea bag/party for them.

Kid is experiencing sexual confusion and goes to a Catholic school in a small conservative town.

Kid has no outlet or safe place to talk about his feelings or figure himself out.
All his outlets are secretive and unhealthy. This chips away at his self worth -day after day.

He internalizes all that sexual energy (that everybody has at that age) and it twists, contorts, rots his insides, and makes him do really weird stuff.

We end up paying $65,000 a year to put him in away in jail and as a result end up uneducated ex-convict that is probably twice as crazy and has now learned to be violent.

Great system!

I agree. This kid needs some serious counseling, not prison time. This is a sad, sad story.

They shouldn't send him to jail. He might like it in there. Better to send him to a mental ward or 15 years.

I can't believe those boys thought releasing pictures and videos would be more damaging than the news of their 'rendezvous' would be. And that's just the kind of news that does get out, eventually. Of course, being 55 I have a lot more wisdom than teenagers so maybe my criticism isn't entirely fair.

What a sickening, creepy mess for those kids.
