It was Tuesday when the story broke of Samantha Lynn Frazier, who credits her love handles for saving her life after she was shot twice at the entrance of an Atlantic City bar last weekend. Since then, unusual life-saved-by-fat stories are coming out of the woodwork, and we here at HuffPost Impact thought they were inspiring enough to warrant further mention.
In addition to Frazier, Britian's Sun newspaper reported on Snaz Martin, a 43-year-old British bartender who may have escaped death after stabbed in the stomach. Doctors say his considerable beer belly may have prevented his vital organs from being damaged. Though Martin weighs only 182 pounds, the doctors say the knife missed his spleen and other organs because of the beer belly.
And it's not just stomachs that are saving lives. Last summer, Lydia Carranza was shot in the chest while at her job in a Simi Valley dental office. Her plastic surgeon says that her breast implants (a size D) are what caused the bullet to miss her heart. Though doctors aren't so sure that the breasts can be credited with the deflection, Dr. Ashkan Ghavami hopes to get implant companies to promote this story as a way to drum up business.
