Chocolate Covered Peeps Drop In Time For Easter

Chocolate Covered Peeps Drop In Time For Easter

Peeps manufacturer Just Born announced last fall that they were on their way, but now comes official sightings of Chococolate Covered Peeps in stores, wisely released in both milk chocolate- and dark chocolate-covered varieties.

Said Chris Schneeweiss, brand manager for Peeps, in their press release announcing their arrival, "These PEEPS® will please loyal fans and entice newcomers, perhaps becoming our biggest hit ever."

The verdict? Serious Eats' blogger Erin Zimmer wrote:

Biting into it, you don't really think about Peeps. You just taste a chocolate-covered marshmallow blob. ... It's not that far off from eating a Valomilk, Mallo Cup, or another cheap drugstore candy made with a super sweet chocolate shell and a stretchy, marshmallowy center.

A very thorough review at Candyblog calls the product itself "pretty revolutionary," and details the concoction:

The marshmallow texture is airy and far lighter and less latexy than I experience with Peeps. I can put my tongue through it in my mouth, kind of like a smooth sugary foam instead of a marshmallow. It's sweet of course but not grainy. The dark chocolate has a bittersweet and dry quality to it that helps round out the fake vanilla flavoring.

And if you'd rather cover your own regular peeps in dark chocolate at home, follow these instructions.
