Michelle Obama Should Wear LaQuan Smith, Says Andre Leon Talley (PHOTOS, POLL)

Vogue's editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley brought Jason Wu's frocks to the White House, but now whose work would he like to see hanging in Michelle's closet? LaQuan Smith. Talley talked to the Wall Street Journal about Smith, a "21 year old African American designer whose grandmother taught him to sew at 13."

She gave him a sewing machine and he made his whole collection in his grandma's apartment in Queens. He showed 15 looks [at New York Fashion Week] for the first time this season and it was simply outstanding. His point of view was totally contemporary. He makes clothes for urban ladies. Lady Gaga and Rihanna have worn his leggings. He had the courage to go ahead and his father, a retired postal worker, gave him the wherewithal to pull that fabric together and turn it into magic. I went to that show and I saw magic. I can only hope that one day we'll see our first lady wearing LaQuan Smith.

I'm not so sure about LaQuan Smith's designs lol. He should have suggested someone like Kevan Hall, his gowns are so beautiful.

This wont work for her. She looks much better in a sheath style with a soft waist,
Her legs are too heavy and her bottom is too wide to pull this style off gracefully.
She looks elegant in simple designs that flatter her body. Not many people other than rail thin models could pull off these styles.

Of course MO wears what she likes, but I think she should stay away from bold prints and big patterns because she is big already. Also, ideally, she stays away from clothes that require belts because her belts are practically below her armpits, and that doesn't look good.

Bravo. LaQuan Smith is Excellent. And FLOTUS has a dubious fashion sense anyway. Nothing personal about her style. Just suggestions from consultants. She has no signature style, unfortunately. Good that she figured out the hair though. That's a start.

Mrs. Obama, PLEASE do not be lured into this trap. Most of these outfits would not compliment your body. One, may two MIGHT be forced to work, but that would hardly be worth your time.

Leon, I used to have respect for you. But you are either being paid a tremendous amount for this endorsement or you have just plain lost it. Either way, you are way wrong on this one.
