Why Rand Paul Is Winning

Dave Weigel:

If you've watched enough video of his father, Ron, debating Republicans, the resonances and contrasts are remarkable. Rand looks and sounds like his father, but he's got a yen for partisan combat and a crispness to his arguments.

.....he's winning because people in Kentucky don't realize that another name for a libertarian dreamland, without taxes or regulations or public education or the post office or public libraries or social security, IS CALLED HAITI !!!!!!

Just read the new ad he is running against his opponent and instead of stating why he would be better he instead goes into the slim mode. In his ad he states that his opponent " voted for the draft dodger Clinton" and goes on to say that as son of a veteran he knows veterans issues. Really because his daddy was a vet he thinks that qualifies him on veterans issues. One question Rand, why didn't you serve? Can't speak for Kentucky but I for one am tired of gutter tatics, just state why you are better based on your background and ideas, enough of playgorund crap.

Our message to Congress: You work for us, not for corporations. We hired you and we get to fire you. We pay you and give you great health insurance. Now get to work serving the interests of the American people, or get out.

As a Kentuckian, I can assure you most here vote against their self-interests. That's why we got McConnell and Bunning. It's embarrassing, but we're not all like that.

Hey, it's Kentucky. We cannot tell them what to do. They have that right to vote for whomever (or whoever) they want.

They voted for a senator (Jim Bunning)who is pushing millions to starvation by denying them extensions of unemployment benefits, but that is their choice.

The state voted for George W. Bush twice. Is the state better off now than in 1999 before his election? Probably not. But they have the choice to vote for whomever (or whoever) they want. It's their choice.

Are they once again voting against their own economic interests? Probably so. But once again, they have the right to vote for anyone they want. It's their choice.

As much as it may pain you progressives in NY, CA, CT and elsewhere, KY can choose it's own representation without having to consult you and your irrelevant opinions. Why do progressives think the world revolves around everything in the northeastern US or CA? Truth be told, in much of the "fly-over" country, you mean less and less as time goes forward and your hysterical liberal ranting becomes harder to hear. Let KY, and other areas outside of your influence, decide our own representation and political destiny. Your primary concerns, many times, are not what we call important. With your continued insertion into our political processes, we continue to reject you more and more, to the point where your irrelevance will become laughable.

He will be a perfect fit for Kentucky's destiny as you call it. A carpetbagger from Texas who moved there because he could not possibly win an election anywhere else...well maybe Alaska.

You have a picture of Jefferson as your icon and yet you belittle Rand Paul who follows his philosophy? Odd.

North East and South West are the economic engine of the United States. The "fly-over" part of the country is too close minded and lives in the middle ages.

He is winning because a huge population of angry white men driving beat up orange vans with spray painted signs bolted to the sides, live in KY.

I can tell you exactly why Rand Paul is winning. He is Bunnings replacement. That's right the good ole Ky. Never underestemate the power of the uneducated in large #'s. Look at the alternative it's crazy vs crazy.

If Palin endorses someone, I'm not interested...by the way, her former go-pher, Meg Stapleton is creepy and shallow just like her old boss ---maybe she'll do a tell-all??

With unemployment over 10% in Kentucky would they really vote for a guy who doesn't believe in unemployment insurance ? That the financial markets shouldn't be regulated ? Geez, even Alan Greenspan admitted last year he was wrong on that count !
These people that think we get "back to following the Constitution", really have no idea what the document says. Do they really think the states should more or less be a "loose confederation" and rely on their own tax base for their own services ? (Interesting since most of the SoOuthern US gets back $1.23 for every $1 they pay in).
No unemployment compensation, Social Security/ Medicare, or aid to education ? The original founders had fights whether the Federal government should pay for "internal improvements" ( in those days canals or roads).

Maybe, I don't think they realize who pays for snow removal or roads. Can't see the big picture. Or that they are recipients of the aid they oppose.

Winning? The elections are a long time off. Maybe he's "winning" in polls, but a lot can happen between now and then.

Report FACTS, please. Thanks.

He won't win. The repubs will rip him apart here. The person I see winning is Jack Conway. You can make the polls reflect whatever you want with the right questions. This I know from working at a company that did political polling. He is like Palin, a small percentage of people like him, but not enough to win.

You know how you can tell Ron Paul is a nut?

He named his son Rand.

Anyone who glorifies that monster to the point where they actually name their children after her is clearly deranged.

Actually, he named his son "Randall".

But why let facts get in the way?

Carry on.
