Homeless In Chicago Raise Funds For Haiti

Chicagoland homeless to support Haiti relief efforts couldn't participate in widespread donation efforts. Instead, volunteers who live in a shelter in in Elgin, Ill. teamed up to run a pancake brunch to raise funds for ShelterBox, the Daily Herald reported.

The $10 dollar brunch supported Rotary Club Elgin's ShelterBoxes for Haiti program. The program will send boxes equippedw ith tents, pots and pans and other basic necessities to the country.

Shelter resident Levi Oury was happy to have a chance to help.

"You're so close to that situation," he said. "You're grateful for what little you do have. You can relate to what they are going through."
