Ogden IRS Building Evacuated: 'Suspicious Substance' Found, Hazmat Called To IRS Building In Utah

OGDEN, Utah — A suspicious substance found at an IRS building in Ogden, Utah, on Monday is not hazardous, an official with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service said.

The FBI's Salt Lake City division said hazardous materials crews were called to the IRS building about 35 miles north of Salt Lake City to respond to a possible threat.

Parts of the building were evacuated, and video on the Web site of KSL-TV showed two people being taken out on stretchers.

But U.S. Postal Inspection Service national spokesman Pete Rendina told The Associated Press the "matter was non-hazardous."

The FBI says some people had medical emergencies but that they did not "appear to be related to this incident."

Weber Fire District Deputy Chief Paul Sullivan told The Associated Press that the medical emergencies were coincidental to the discovery of the suspicious substance.

He said two people who already had medical issues happened to have episodes while authorities were on the scene and were treated. He said he couldn't release any additional information.

As of Monday afternoon, several emergency vehicles, including hazardous materials response trucks, had left the scene.

The building, surrounded by a fence, is in an industrial area. No signs on the building indicate it is an IRS facility.

The FBI says its investigation is ongoing and it couldn't release further details.

The IRS confirmed the incident in a statement Monday.

No additional details were available about the substance found or those taken from the building on stretchers.

Associated Press writer Randolph E. Schmid contributed to this report from Washington.

is there more info to this story somewhere else that i'm not seeing. the article says the substance was non-hazardous and that the people taken away on stretchers were not harmed by the substance. it was apparently coincidental that they were taken out while the FBI investigated said substance. why is everyone on here still arguing like it is a known fact that a right-winger did it? i would like to know more about this story so someone please point me in the right direction to facts and not assumptions.

There is no law that says you have to file a 1040. Yet, if you don't the IRS will seize your property without a court order. Many people who refused to file have been found not guilty. The courts are rigged against us but some brave jurors have demanded to see the law.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5UcPeSb8kg&feature=player_embedded#

There is no need for an income tax. Close the IRS. Abolish the income tax.

The income tax is the most degrading and totalitarian of all possible taxes. Its implementation wrongly suggests that the government owns the lives and labor of the citizens it is supposed to represent. Tellingly, a heavy progressive or graduated income tax is Plank #2 of the Communist Manifesto, which was written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels and first published in 1848.

Andy,

You are 100% WRONG - STILL

1. Federal Tax LAW begins with the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), enacted by Congress in Title 26 of the United States Code (26 U.S.C.).

2. 16th Amendment gives Congress the power to enact Federal Tax Laws & to levy taxes.

I know you are enjoying spreading your false information on behalf of Limpba//s & glennDuh .... but your spreading false information that if even one person buys what you are selling - could them in a lot of legal troubles...

Andy

Since you clearly have trouble connecting dots and/or processing information - let me spell out for you the FACTS ON THE LAWS ENACTED BY CONGRESS REGARDING FEDERAL TAX LAWS which ARE the Tax Codes.

You are WRONG again.

1. Federal Tax LAW begins with the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), enacted by Congress in Title 26 of the United States Code (26 U.S.C.).

** see that part - ENACTED by Congress - it means it passed both the Senate & the House and was signed by the President of the United States making it a LAW.

2. 16th Amendment gives Congress the power to enact Federal Tax Laws & to levy taxes.

3. Federal tax law begins with the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), enacted by Congress in Title 26 of the United States Code (26 U.S.C.).

4. Fraudulent failure to file return penalty is set out in Federal Tax LAWS under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 6651(f). This penalty also has a maximum 75% penalty rate.

Therefore, tax codes ARE FEDERAL LAWS ENACTED BY CONGRESS!

HE TAX CODES ARE NOT LAWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There has to be a LAW. Do you know what laws are? You know, statutes. Under what LAW does it specifically say I have to file a 1040 or pay an income tax? Until you can post a specific statute then I am 100% RIGHT!

Laws have to be voted on. They have pass the house and the senate and be signed by the President.

Tax codes can be changed, added to and omitted by the IRS.

Gosh, after reading so many of the posts here, there is support for domestic terrorism IF it is against the IRS (?). Can you hear yourselves, read what you are writing, that it is ok to fly planes in to buildings IF they are IRS buildings. It is ok to use white powder to scare the rank and file of the IRS workers.

Posters like this truly scare me. We do not need more Timothy McVeighs or Terry Nichols in this country. A terrorist is a terrorist. This act of terrorism in Oklahoma City claimed the lives of 168 victims and injured more than 680 people. This is what you want because you hate paying income taxes?

Beating the Conundrum

PART 1
Amazing:
1) To start; I do not endorse or condone terrorist acts
2) The world is where it is because the game got set up that "this is a world of scarcity" and people all over the place fight each other for what they are afraid they will lose to others.
3) If you think hard about it, governments were set up based on the threat of force if you don't agree with the stronger group of people.
4) There is a lot about law, its creation, its implementation and a lot of bogus stuff that goes on that looks legal but, in fact has no legal status other than that there are big boys and girls out there ready to punish people who do not obey them.
5) Our nation was founded by a courageous and small minority of the population. They fought and many died to set this nation up.
6) Many people have seen our system of laws become corrupted and they are angry.
7) Some people feel better at using anger to damage and kill others

Beating the Conundrum

Part 2
Amazing:
8) I use my anger to lead people to better places (when that works in this anger/competition and exclusive society)
9) I am sorry for you that you are so fearful but the fact is that if government continues to allow gross transgressions agains the laws, without upholding the laws, there are going to be people who lack enough patience and confidence to deal with things rationally and through logical and dramatic persuasion. I fear these people too; not for my own safety but for the safety of what's left of the system of government and society we are (on paper) supposed to be.

The more the average citizen gets actively involved in face to face or telephone confrontations with those whom they feel are abusing them, the less likely the truly dangerous things are to happen. Please do your part to step up to the table and tell the courageous truth. That's all that can be asked of you.

Have a good day and be proud there are people who take things seriously enough to get involved. Founding and maintaining a democratic republic is not a fun, safe thing at all times.
And it is downright scary right now.

My, my, my, you must have a very guilty conscience as I did not name names or imply that I thought that you were advocating terrorism. I was simply reading the postings and came to a conclusion that there are those who see no wrong in flying planes in to IRS buildings and killing innocent people.

I am having a wonderful day, hope that you are as well. Thanks goodness I do not have to worry about anger management.

Schools are paid for by property taxes (should also be eliminated)

Roads are paid for by tolls and gas taxes.

The rest are combinations of excise taxes and tariffs.

The income tax is used to pay the interest on the money we borrow from the Fed (even though Congress has the right to print our own money interest free).

Bring home ALL the troops, stop giving other countries money, end the failed war on drugs, let Pelosi fly commercial etc. even the IRS is expensive to maintain. 50% of the money the government takes in is wasted. Cut the waste and there will be no need for an income tax. Let the people keep the money they worked for. Taking peoples labor is SLAVERY!

And yes, I condemned threats in my first comment.
