How To Have A Wedding That Gives Back

First Posted: 05/02/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:40 PM ET

Do pricey weddings have you wondering how you can make your big day more meaningful? That's what one bride set out to do with her recent nuptials. She shared her easy tips on stretching the "Do Good" in her "I Do's" with the Charlotte Observer.

Top tips? Donate your post-party flowers to a place, like a hospital, that needs perking up and used gowns to a cause like cancer prevention. You can also send your reception leftovers to a nearby homeless shelter or find a volunteer service from a charitable cause to cater your meal so that all proceeds will go to those less blissful than you on your special day.

Check out more tips at the Charlotte Observer.

On our wedding day, rather than allow people to clink their glasses so that we'd kiss, we had a giant collection box for City of Hope. If people wanted us to kiss, they had to put money in the box for cancer research. We raised $271!
