It's a terrific movie.

The Ghost Writer is another Polanski’s Masterpieces. There is much truth in the movie that parallels Polanski's own life.

For instance Polanski's arrest now must be a pretext , since the arrest came 32 years too late.

Coming too late, the arrest is suspicious and probably first is in retaliation for Zenovich's movie which exposes official corruption against Polanski in Santa Monica. Courthouse decades ago.

Then Polanski's arrest may also be in retaliation for "The Ghost Writer" since the movie illustrates what happens to individuals who want to expose Official corruption, when the ruthless officials primary goal is to bury their corruption, their war crimes, and so may bury the individual who wants to expose.

Polanski has run into a few of those ruthless killer officials on both sides of the pond!

The world is full of corruption, and many get away with with their crimes.

For instance Jay S. Bybee was confirmed as a Judge for the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals by the Senate on March 13, 2003, long before the "torture memos" became public. The Torture Memos concerned enhanced interrogation of suspected terrorist detainees in Bush’s war on terror.

Roman Polanski's arrest in 2009 has everything to do with Polanski's movies and his politics, and Marina Zenovich's movie, "Polanski: Wanted and Desired" and has nothing to do with his crime 32 years ago, because if it had - he would have been arrested far sooner.

Polanski's arrest is in retaliation for his politics, & for Marina Zenovich's movie which blows the whistle on Judicial and Prosecutorial corruption against Polanski in 1978

As far as Polanski's current accusers in the Los Angeles's DA's office, retaliation has already been found in a different case.

A Federal Court on 3/2/2010 found striking and rampant evidence of a retaliation where the LA DA & LA County officials discriminated against their own prosecutors, see the link below:

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2010/03/judge-cooleys-retaliation-against-union-members-striking-and-rampant-.html

A Federal Court could find striking & rampant evidence that the DA retaliated against Roman Polanski and arrested him in 2009 using as a pretext the original crime, since Zenovich movie, "Polanski: Wanted & Desired" exposed the judicial and prosecutorial misconduct against Roman Polanski 32 years ago, which led to his flight,

A Federal Court may also find that Polanski's arrest is in retaliation for Polanski’s movie “The Ghost Writer†which uncovers what happens to people who expose war crimes - because rather than really having any 1st Amendment rights to free speech in exposing war crimes- the movie shows instead that they will be drowned, or run over like kittens.
01:44 PM on 03/12/2010
This is getting tiresome. You speculate and wave your hands, but offer zero evidence. I really wish I could believe you, because I'm all for exposing war crimes, and, as much as the next guy, I hate to see kittens run over or drowned.

Like most other Polanski apologists, you minimize the significance of his criminal deed in comparison to his public impact. You are telling us that Polanski's ideology is so important, his crime so trivial, that prosecutors must be using the crime as an excuse to silence his political voice. The other apologists tell us that Polanski's art is so pure and profound, his life so heartbreaking, that he could not have deliberately victimized an innocent child. "Oh no", they say; "he was set up!" "Oh no", you say; "he is being silenced!"

Apparently, the normal rules of logic, morality and justice do not apply here.
08:43 PM on 03/12/2010
Watch Polanski: Wanted & Desired, & The Ghost Writer.

Polanski was silenced by having to take flight from America when Justice malfunctioned so grossly in Judge Rittenband Santa Monica Courtroom, that Polanski who had fully cooperated up to that final moment, logically deported himself.

Funes said, “… unless you can cite some actual evidence, your theory that Polanski's arrest was in retaliation for the ideology expressed in his movie has no credibility. The case against Roman Polanski has little to do with his movies, and even less to do with his politics. It has everything to do with his crime and flight from justice.â€

The definitive documentary Polanski: Wanted and Desired, is full of evidence showing corruption in Polanski's case, causing his flight from injustice.

Nobody wants to minimize the significance of Polanski's deed, but Polanski paid the price at Chino, and was released with the recommendation of no further prison time.

The ideology shown in Polanski Wanted and Desired, is so humiliating to the Los Angeles Justice system tthat it would definitely use Polanski's 32 year old sin as an excuse to silence Polanski’s political voice today, & regain a modicum of respectability through diversion away from their own Judicial sin & Prosecutorial corruption against Polanski.

But you will only be diverted if you want to be, since fallacies are embedded there, and so the corruption and retaliation for reporting Judicial & Prosecutorial corruption at the Santa Monica Courthouse has comes full circle.
12:25 AM on 03/10/2010
A Federal Judge issued a preliminary injunction on 3/2/2010 against Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley and other Los Angeles County officials, ordering them not to discipline or discriminate against prosecutors.

If a Federal Court has found striking and rampant evidence of a retaliation where the LA DA & other Los Angeles County officials discriminated against and disciplined their own prosecutors, see below for news link:

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2010/03/judge-cooleys-retaliation-against-union-members-striking-and-rampant-.html

Then a Federal Judge could also find striking & rampant evidence that the LA DA & other LA County Officials discriminated & retaliated against Roman Polanski in 2009 for Marina Zenovich's documentary movie, "Polanski: Wanted & Desired" because the movie showed authentic footage of the Santa Monica Judge Rittenband, and prosecutor David Wells, which exposed the Judicial and Prosecutorial Misconduct against Roman Polanski 32 years ago in the California case against him.

Why are there so many claims that RoPo is the victim of an evil justice system and the "military-industrial-political complex"? As if anyone in power feels threatened by some lame art-house movie that only matters to people who live for Film Festivals. Gimme a break!

As to why RoPo was arrested suddenly, perhaps it had something to do with his filing of a request, a year or so ago, to dismiss the charges against him in California.

If RoPo hadn't cut and run back in the 70s, his sordid little episode would be long forgotten, and he'd be free to have his feet kissed at any Film Festival he deigned to honor with his presence.
09:42 PM on 03/05/2010
The reason that there are so many claims that Roman Polanski is the victim of an evil justice system is because he is the victim of an evil justice system. If this were not so people who are other and distinct and apart from Roman Polanski, and who do not know Roman Polanski, would not be claiming this.

Wow... It's hard to argue with that bit of flawless logic.

Some may believe Polanski’s movie "The Ghost Writer" bears no resemblance to reality, or his current situation.

In the movie two ghost writers, face the same corruption.

The first perishes under strange circumstances much as Polanski did in America due to Judicial Corruption at the Santa Monica Courthouse. And just as there are two ghosts in the movie, so too are there two victims of Judicial corruption in reality.

The second victim suffers police brutality by undocumented White County of Los Angeles Sheriffs Deputies, for reporting Police cover up of her sexual assault complaint against a S.M.C. photography teacher.

The same Judge for overseeing the police brutality in his courtroom was promoted to the California Court of Appeals on police brutality day, just as Jay S. Bybee who signed the Torture Memos was promoted to the Federal Appeal Court.

As Polanski plus another have been victimized by Judicial Misconduct in the same Santa Monica Courthouse, Polanski’s claim is substantiated because there is a Judicial double standard for sexual assault cases depending on who the perpetrator is:

Roman Polanski

or

A State employee, who then is assisted by corrupt police & the Court itself.

The second victim sued in Federal District Court but got slowly tortured by LA County & Judge Jay S. Bybee's January 11th 2006 decision.

Polanski’s movie "The Ghost Writer" warns viewers to not to seek truth, or expose political facts that Officials want covered up, because if you do, you may end up as a ghost.

Judicial Corruption meets innocence over water

The Judge corrupted the plea agreement by breaking it.

The non breaching & thus the innocent and injured party to the plea bargain agreement was Roman Polanski,

who had already been sentenced to a non-appealable jail sentence at Chino by the Santa Monica Judge Rittenband which Polanski had already served & performed as part of the plea bargain agreement. in 1977

Bottom Line: Judicial Corruption meets innocence over Santa Monica water

oh for the love of christ...where was all this outrageous screaming against Adrian Brody when he won an Oscar for The Pianist, a film directed by Roman Polanski.

If one is going to follow to logical conclusion that ever person who worked with Polonski is tainted that's every writer, grip, set decorator, office person, extra, etc ,etc who on any film the man made since he went to Europe.

not just those who conveniently have faces we recognize enough to throw brickbats .

Brilliant Film!
Polanski is a genius. He is masterful poet and storyteller.

This film was written and directed before Polanski's arrest . It's an indictment on the Blair and Bush administrations and their treacherous Lies and deceit of WMD's that led to an Illegal war in Iraq......for the profit of oil and to extract trillions of dollars from the taxpayers to pay the industrial-military complex and CIA.

Polanski lived freely for many years in his own chalet in switzerland, traveling back and forth from France for many years without any problem.
Why his sudden arrest in switzerland several months ago?
Could it be related to the release of this movie?
Did the military-industrial-political complex strong arm the swiss to arrest Polanski
in order to smear him before the release of this film?

I think it's not only probable, but very likely that Polanski was targeted in order to distract the public from the message of his film:
That the american and british public were manipulated to accept an illegal war which resulted in trillions of dollars in profits for certain companies and individuals and the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people and the subsequent global recession.

Stop the madness and FREE Polanski. The smear campaign by the U.S. media at the behest of the military-industrial-political complex did not prevail. FREE Polanski, once and for all.

The guy RAPED and DRUGGED a 13 year old and admitted to it! That is why he was arrested! It happened in 1977. He ran to Europe to avoid getting punished. How many people don't know this story? Sorry, but this happened long before anybody heard of Bush or Blair.
10:40 AM on 03/03/2010
That's B.S.
He DID NOT Drug her.
She was a hot looking model, who looked much older. She wanted to have sex with him. Where were her parents or her agent?
Why did the swiss suddenly arrest him late last year?
He was living freely in switzerland before.
He even bought a house in switzerland.
This is all political.
Free Polanski and STOP the Nonsense.

condor101: I agree with you about Bush & Blair's shameful deceit on WMDs and the Iraq War. They cynically manipulated the facts and the public's trust, for very questionable aims. I think history will judge them harshly.

I haven't seen The Ghost Writer, but I'll gladly take your word that it is critical of the Iraq war. However, unless you can cite some actual evidence, your theory that Polanski's arrest was in retaliation for the ideology expressed in his movie has no credibility.

The case against Roman Polanski has little to do with his movies, and even less to do with his politics. It has everything to do with his crime and flight from justice.

FunesTheMemorious said "unless ... [Condor101] can cite some actual evidence,

for [Condor101's] theory that Polanski's arrest was in retaliation for the ideology expressed in his [Polanski's] movie [The Ghost Writer] has no credibility."

Here’s evidence & credibility.

To begin - How does a bogus explanation for Polanski’s arrest prove retaliation?

A bogus explanation for an arrest, is known as a “pretext.â€

The LA DA is in the best position to know why it took three decades to arrest Roman Polanski who was not hiding.

Proof that arresting Polanski now is a pretext allows an inference that the DA is hiding an another reason for the arrest.

That inference alone can be enough for a jury to find that the real, unlawful reason for the arrest is in retaliation for Polanski movie, “The Ghost Writerâ€

There also may be a retaliation against Polanski for the documentary movie, “Polanski: Wanted and Desired†which Polanski did not make, but which showed authentic footage of prosecutorial and judicial corruption against Polanski 32 years ago, which caused Polanski’s flight from Los Angeles in the first place.

In addition the failure of the DA & other County officials to investigate the complaint of prosecutorial and Judicial misconduct against Roman Polanski as shown in Polanski: Wanted and Desired, also indicates that Polanski’s arrest may be in retaliation for Marina Zenovich exposing the Los Angeles Judicial and Prosecutorial corruption against Polanski in that movie, which occured before he took flight from LA in 1978.

I can't do it. I like the actors in this film...I used to like them. I can't understand how people pass long hours and endless weeks in the company of a rapist. I just can't. What do you do? Do you say: "Hey man, everyone's saying she was a child prostitute anyway, so no harm no foul..." or "I'm okay you're okay, man..." or "Some 13-year-olds are just asking for it..."

I'm with Aristotle on this one. People who do indecent and immoral things should be excluded from civil society. This guy has done nothing to atone, nothing to repay society.
