Didn't most of the Mizrachi Jews go to Israel? Why would they want to come back to Egypt? But then again, Germany has more Jews now than any other European country, and a lot of the Sephardim have returned to Spain, so maybe saying "I'm really sorry" has something going for it.

Large Jewish communities existed and sometimes, thrived, in Persia, Yemen, Iraq, Egypt, Armenia and other countries for thousands of years. The Ottoman Empire, which controlled much of the Middle East, was generally tolerant of non-Muslim citizens and what has happened since the Balfour Declaration, the establishment of Israel and the upsurge of the Fundamentalist and Terrorist factions of Islam is fairly recent.

Hawass is a controversial figure, often accused of self-aggrandizement. However, I think his championing of the restoration of Rambam's synagogue is a positive step. Hopefully, in the future, Egyptian, Iraqi, Yemeni, and Libyan Jews will be welcomed as returnees to their historic homelands.

Probably not Iraq

The constitution - which was written with US assistance - forbids entry by Jews (Other than those with diplomatic status or members of welcome foreign militaries) into Iraq

Are you disappointed that there are still nearly 100 Jews in Egypt (From a 1948 community of over 75,000)

It was sarcastic comment and you should know that. Egypt's persecution of Jews was shameful.

I have to correct myself since looking a little further into the matter:

There are now less than 75 Jews. In 1948 there were approximately 82 ,000

I will pray someday Jews will be allowed to pray there.......
