Michael Blosil Suicide

people.com:

Back in 2007, the teen spent time in rehab for substance abuse. At the time, Osmond's brother Donny told PEOPLE that his sister had been dealing with Michael's issues "for a very long time."

But by 2008, Michael, a talented musician and high school senior, appeared to be doing better: Mom boasted in her book Might As Well Laugh About It that he "had been accepted into a performing arts program for high school students."

What a tragedy. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. My son attempted it about 10 years ago when he was going through a rough patch. He survived and went on to have a great life, a wonderful wife and children. I am so greatful that his attempt was not successful. My friend was not so lucky with her 18 year old son. She was devistated to hear about Marie Osmond's family, and it brought it all back to her, 15 years later. I wish the best for Marie and her family.

I'd like to relay a personal story about Marie Osmond. About 15 years ago, when I was a disk jockey in Lincoln Nebraska, I accompanied a couple to a Christmas show featuring Ms. Osmond. It was a prize package which included backstage passes. When we got backstage, there were about half a dozen people waiting to meet her, including a man who I would guess to be in his early 20's who had Down Syndrome. He was obviously a huge fan, and very excited to meet Ms. Osmond. She was very nice, and in the course of conversation, the man asked "how is your baby?" Ms. Osmond said, "She's great, in fact she's traveling with me, would you like to meet her?" She then left, and came back with her infant daughter. She then asked the man, "would you like to hold her?" It was quite moving to see the man smile as he held that baby, and even now I have goose bumps writing about it. At that moment, I became a huge Marie Osmond fan. Not of the singer, but of the person. My heart goes out to her, and her family.

This is a tragic story to read.If no one reports these stories how will people be informed?Maybe reading an article like this will help someone else's family. As long as people are RESPECTFUL of the son,I don't see an issue. It is NOT respectful asking questions like didn't the family know he was getting worse?Or anything on those lines, they JUST lost a child to something that could have been preventable.Don't u think they are asking those same questions? They will ask them forever.Prayers go out to the family and friends.

The gossip magazine writers are "sick" people. Anything for a big headline and sales.

Leave the family alone. Osmond's son has a right to privacy about his life.

Truly, you people are sickos

Clinical depression is no laughing matter. If you knew someone who suffered from it, as I do, it is a debilitating disease than can be controlled by drugs for some people. For others, it does not work.

My sympathies go out to the Marie and her family, but weren't they aware of the signs? His death did not happen overnight. It was the end of of a long road to suicide.

No one should ignore these symtoms in a loved one, or put it down to another teenage phase. It is real and deadly. Unfortunately, it is one of those diseases that no one wants to talk about because it is a mental illness.

Love to Marie who I have admired since I was a little girl watching the osmonds on tv. It's just such a damn shame.

Marie has been open about her own struggles with Clinical depression. Talk therapy is not enough, which does have success in mild and moderate depression.

i feel sorry for marie. no parent wants to bury a child, no matter the situation. on the other hand, there is something very wrong with the father-son relationship if michael changes his surname.

A celebrities kid offs himself and it's national news? I'm just saying. I'm happy for the guy. He wanted to die, and he did, he got the job done. Good for him.

It's called a human interest story for a reason; you obviously have your life so togehter you'll learn nothing here. So, why are you wasting your time and energy commenting?

I agree, it is sad, they seem like a nice loving family. I feel for his parents and his siblings. It must be devastating!

When celebrity parents release public statements it is no longer private! If had any real respect for his privacy you wouldn't have commented or stopped here.

This is just for your information. In the 1950s, the Surgeon General's office commission Aaron Beck to study suicidal behavior. Beck concluded after an extensive longitudinal study that severely depressed individual's rarely commit suicide as they lack the energy and motivation to make a plan. Moreover, he concluded that the greatest risk of suicide comes when the individual begins to improve. This is a variable in the relationship between the use of antidepressants and increased suicidal rates. Suicide is either the second or third leading cause of death in children and adolescents. Look for the signs: Sudden elevation of depressed mood (they feel a sense of relief after making a decision to end their life), giving away cherished possessions, putting affairs in order, etc.

Yep. And those new "warnings of suicide for adolescents" were written by lawyers for Big Pharm. A lawyer's Dream. Parents of minors have the right & are more likely to sue than dead adults. Duh.

It's a total SCAM. Antidepressants increase suicidal tendencies in EVERYONE for the very fact you mention. The drugs give people who were previously immobilized by his/her Depression the Energy to carry out their plans of escape by suicide.

I'm sure that the "FDA Warning's" age will slowly increase, until Big Pharma finally has to admit this suicide risk for Everyone. Especially seniors.

P.S. I am not anti-Anti-depressants. I have been on them myself. I speak from experience that these are powerful drugs that should not be taken lightly. Primary Care Physicians should not be prescribing them - based on the drugs' effects. Yet, there is not enough public ACCESS to qualified psychiatrists to treat those suffering from Depression.

We need to reform the system! Handing out powerful drugs without proper diagnoses, psychotherapy, and follow-up will only increase suicide rates! End the madness - it's causing Death!
