More like she didn't want to literally share the stage with Meyer, because one night of partying isn't going to detract from writing the new book. Lawrence Block cranked out THE SINS OF THE FATHERS in 15 days, and Joe Eszterhas did BASIC INSTINCT in 10...and that included revisions.

But every author works by his/her own method, no?

Method has nothing to do with taking a night off to attend some televised party. In fact, she could drop a few hints whenever the reporters from E!, EXTRA, ACCESS HOLLYWOOD or ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT make their rounds and drum up some additional interest.

J K Rowling is brillant writer while Stephenie Meyer is a lucky beginner who tapped into the void that Rowling left. Maybe Rowling would have taken a break and enjoyed the spectacle if they had offered her a more worthy peer to present with....someone like Philip Pullman.

Amen, JVF. She's so far out of Stephenie Meyer's league that they shouldn't even be mentioned in the same article, let alone share a stage. Philip Pullman, on the other hand - brilliant!

good for her. award ceremonies are a complete sham and false hope for people to make them feel like they are important.

What does an intelligent, literate woman like Rowling have to do with the Oscars? She's worth more than Tom Hanks and Oprah put together. She has her standards. She took the movie money, but they were begging HER to sign, not the other way around. She was bigger than any of them. Good for her.

Correction: According to Forbes, as of 2009, Oprah is worth 2.7Billion and JK Rowling is worth 1.0Billion.

Well, I wouldn't want to stand next to Stephanie Meyer either.

Good for her. I wouldn't call it a snub either since that infers the event is somehow important in the larger scheme of things. Doing her work certainly is more important.

Maybe she has a nose zit.

Snubbed? Because she refused to participate in the Academy's patronizing stunt pairing of presenters on that increasingly irrelevant clusterf*ck? More like good taste.

The movies they nominate are all corporate sludge anyway. It's basically a lavish business promotion for products that everyone knows get worse and worse every year. Cineplex has basically set the tagline for hollywood with it's new advertising slogan: escape with us.

A perfect pitch for crack-cocaine, or for 3D light shows...

I don't blame her. Who wants to watch anything with Alec Baldwin as one of the hosts?

I hope her next book a good one because it will run against the Harry Potter books.

Good. That is exactly what I would expect from J.K.Rowling. It would be a bit unnatural to see her at Oscar. She wrote great books, and she is consistently modest and smart.

I wish her good pleasure from her work and success with her books, whatever she is working on.
