Roy Ashburn ARRESTED: Anti-Gay State Sen. Got DUI After Leaving Gay Nightclub, Sources Say

First Posted: 5/4/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Ashburn Arrested

Early Wednesday morning, State Sen. Roy Ashburn (R-Calif.) was pulled over and arrested for drunk driving. Sources report that Ashburn -- a fierce opponent of gay rights -- was driving drunk after leaving a gay nightclub; when the officer stopped the state-issued vehicle, there was an unidentified man in the passenger seat of the car.

Ashburn has issued an apology for the incident:

"I am deeply sorry for my actions and offer no excuse for my poor judgment. I accept complete responsibility for my conduct and am prepared to accept the consequences for what I did. I am also truly sorry for the impact this incident will have on those who support and trust me - my family, my constituents, my friends, and my colleagues in the Senate."

Just how hypocritical can a person get.

Does anyone remember where they were when admitting to themselves ( and others) that they were gay? Was anyone driving a state owned vehicle, dating after 2AM while intoxicated?

Wait one cotton pickin' minute here! A fierce Anti Gay 'Gay' California State Senator gets arrested for DUI and the big news is...perhaps it's because he is 'Gay'? I am confused! Help me please! Senator Ashburn's statement; "I am deeply sorry for my actions and offer no excuse for my poor judgment. I accept complete responsibility for my conduct and am prepared to accept the consequences for what I did. I am also truly sorry for the impact this incident will have on those who support and trust me - my family, my constituents, my friends, and my colleagues in the Senate."
Is the 'esteemed' Senator from California apologizing for the DUI issued 'early in the morning' while operating a taxpayer funded Chevy Tahoe or is the Senator apologizing for being a 'closeted and frightened 'Homosexual' getting caught 'dating'?
As far as I am concerned he is not 'Gay', just another closeted and frightened 'Homosexual'.

This just in: Senator Larry Craig was the unnamed male sitting in the passenger seat. When asked by the officer if he had been drinking as well, the Senator appeared to respond in Morse code with foot taps.

Love it. Almost a La Cage a Folle moment here. I still love the original version of La Cage the best. Probably didn't have the camera flash-in-the-face moment though but this is just as good if not better.

These absolutists are the worst for hypocrisy. I remember 1978 when the hotel I worked in as bartender booked several religious conventions. You could tell how right-sided religious they were from the lack of public bar business and lousy dining tips in the restaurant my bar was in versus the huge number of "no-see-um" small pocket-sized liquor bottles the maids told us they cleaned up from the rooms, more even than the Shriners (supposedly top partiers).

The gals on the street also told us that they had way more business than usual although I never understood how entire conventions of anybody (religious or otherwise) could possibly all hide from each other with all "those" women (the same ones the would condemn from their pulpits - unless they all kept a conspiracy of silence. Once again, they out-did the Shriners.

The other characteristic was always demeanor, they got meaner as they got more religion. They would show up with a saccharine sweetness - until some small thing would go the wrong way for them and then it was a sudden, nasty burst of temper, as if some huge, stretched rubber band had just let go. Some of the biggest names in religion attended.

"I am also sorry for the impact this incident will have on those who support and trust me-..."

I tend to believe that most of those who did support him knew how he was yet chose to remain silent about it.

Another closeted gay Republican. I'm really beginning to believe that many of these anti-gay Republicans fear their own homoerotic fantasies and their own gayness and/or they have a lot of self loathing.

You're just beginning to believe that? It's been a fact for a long time. The staunchest homophobes are always in the closet.

Any truth to the rumor he was humming ABBA's legendary hit single "Dancing Queen" at the time of the arrest?

This is so typical! Gotta love the good ol' Log Cabin Republicans. I am reminded of the Reverend Tedd Haggard having his "gay experience" and alleges that he is now "cured". It really irks me that there are so many gay people who have the audacity to denounce gay rights, even fight against it.

People like Sen. Ashburn hate themselves and want to make everybody else miserable in the process. They really annoy me.
