Audrey and Grace look like two prima ballerinas waiting in the wings for their cue. So lovely, graceful, and discreet! Beautiful!

Ah -- those were the days when we could just appreciate these beautiful and gifted icons without knowing all about their sex, drug, alcohol, tantrum, money etc. problems. Much better for them to be glorious figments of our collective imagination......

Simply breathtaking. Without sky-high heels they can't walk in (take note, Mariah), or slashed down to there or up to here dresses (take note again, Mariah). And the men - oh the men. The sweetest of all was the pic of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. And, BTW, I am not a Mariah hater, I think she has a gorgeous voice. She just needs to stop dressing like she's 14.

Some of their best movies:

Grace Kelly and James Stewart, in Rear Window and Thelma Ritter

Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart and William Holden in Sabrina

Natalie Wood and Robert Redford, in This Property Is Condemned

can't leave out: Grace Kelly and Cary Grant in To Catch a Thief, got a kick out of the lady who played her mother, can't remember her name.

There will NEVER be another Audrey Hepburn....class, grace, elegance, beauty, philanthropy....helluva combination. She was known for her incredible work with Unicef beyond her film work....whenever I see "Roman Holiday" with her and Gregory Peck...you see two actors who have no peers. Gregory Peck...now THERE'S a man!!!!

Wow. Nothing looks better on a man than white tie and tails. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall to hear what Cary, Clark, Bob and Davis were laughing at-- probably something entirely off color!

Those were fabulous, thank you! They all seem so dignified and gorgeous. Makes a person want for such a time as this.

All great photos. I was watching the original " The Secret Garden" on AMC classics, 31 Days of Oscar, and after google searches, I had no idea Dean Stockwell has won 10 Oscars in his lifetime. I think it's time to give him an honorary Oscar for Lifetime achievement. I hope he's mentioned tomorrow. It's amazing how different he looks as an adult star from his early child star days.
Here's a picture of Dean Stockwell young - around the same year he did The Secret Garden and The Boy With Green Hair:

And here is a more recent picture you might recognize:

Quite the career. I am glad at least 31 Days of Oscar has acknowledged his brilliant career.

I wish there was an edit button on this website...my mistake. He's won 10 awards, and was nominated for an Oscar for " Married to the Mob". I still think with a career such as his, he deserves an honorary Oscar for a lifetime of amazing work.

The men are all wearing formal evening dress, which we have come to know as tuxedos, but Paul Newman and Kirk Douglas are wearing white tie and tail coats. There simply was no finer or more formal attire for a man.
