Workers United (an affiliate of the Service Employees International Union) has asked red carpet walkers to boycott Hugo Boss at the Oscars, WWD reports. Hugo Boss recently announced it will close its only American plant, located in Ohio, in April, leaving more than 300 workers without jobs.
Workers United spokesman Eric Sharfstein said, "We were aware of the importance that Hugo Boss places on the big name celebrities showcasing their brand. We should make people aware of what they are doing to the average person, and the Oscars are a forum to do that."
Actor Danny Glover helped the union distribute letters calling for male attendees to ditch their Hugo Boss suits and sport pins come Sunday.
