Well, I'm certainly happy for him, not just because he's Austrian ;). I didn't like the movie much (although it was good), and he was very good in the role. But I think Americans with all the Hollywood movies and many only average actors are just not that used to really good actors, but here there are many very good actors, just think of "The Life of Others" with S. Koch and Ulrich Mühe, oder "Sophie Scholl-The final Days" or "The Counterfeiters" (Die Fälscher) which won in 2007...all great movies, and in my opinion more realistic and subtle than this movie. Anyway, many of these actors also play in regular TV movies here. So I guess we're just more used to that.

No one deserved it more! Christoph's portrayal made the first 15 minutes of this film so tension filled that I had to bite my fist in order to muffle a scream! And he didn't disappoint throughout - he had OSCAR stamped all over him before the film even ended. This man has paid his dues and we need to see much more of him in the U.S. EVERYONE who was part of this film was fantastic. THANK YOU, QUINTEN!

Think about the last 3 best supporting actor winners. Javier Bardem, Heath Ledger and Christoph Waltz. In the last three years, we have seen, in my opinion, three of the greatest villains in film history, portrayed flawlessly by all three astounding actors. Congrats Christoph, it's well deserved.

Good point. I didn't realize until now that I watched all three films a second time (something I rarely do) specifically to see those three actors performances. Stunningly fine works.

Obviously I can't provide factual evidence, yet my girlfriend can witness that I called the BSA Oscar for Waltz when I saw the movie opening weekend in the UK, and before I ever heard any Oscar Buzz or knew who Waltz was...true story, I called it about half way through the movie. Believe it or not.

Well deserved, Waltz's "Hanz Landa" was probably one of the most disturbingly evil characters in recent movie history.

What Brad Pitt said at the end of the movie has definitely come true for Christoph Waltz.
