A Woman won an Oscar for best director last night and today the sun rose, there was still traffic on the freeway and my boss was still an ass. Life went on as usual. The cure for Cancer was not discoverd...A female got a statute,Get a grip people, BFD!!!

Not much of a surprise, really. The Academy will NEVER give a Best Picture Oscar to a sci-fi flick, no matter how good it may be. I loved "Avatar", but let's face it, the storyline of that film has been done to death. ("Pocahontas", Dances with Wolves", etc.). I hate war movies, but am happy to see a woman win a Best Director award at last.

One opinion, my own, worth two cents and having the overall effect of a bluejay feather falling onto the surface of a frog pond near Meridian, Mississippi:

I enjoyed the "Hurt Locker," and I share in Kathryn Bigelowe's accomplishment. It was no "Midnight Cowboy" or "To Kill a Mockingbird." I don't think it should have been awarded "Best Picture" though.
"Best Director"--maybe. I noticed some unique and effective staging--but that's just a non-expert talking.

I enjoyed Atavar as well, but the special effects would have pleased me more in the service of a different story. The myth was too predictable and we have all seen it played out before.

But it shore was purty!

I liked "Crazy Heart" the first time I saw it when it was called "The Wrestler".

Except you had to look at that ugly mug in the wrestler, the music sucked, and who gives a F#$% about wrestlers.

Let's see,

Do I want an Oscar or James Cameron's $Billion Dollars?

Hummmmmm ... tough choice.

An especially easy choice if you already have one.

First theater-going experience.......

I was 15 and on a school-sponsored trip. My Mom is a Holy-Rolling Pentecostal and I grew up without a TV for most of my childhood and had never been to a theater until 1989 or maybe '90.
It was about that same time that I ate a McDonalds.

I can't remember the movie that I saw, it was some rally lame teen film kinda like animal house, all the guys were trying to get the girls in an ensemble cast. Totally forgettable.
But the theater and the snack bar were cool, I just felt soooo sinful.

You poor thing. See, I am a cafeteria Catholic, I pick and choose what I like, every priest knows where I am coming from. Some of their ridiculous things I just ignore.

As a "recovering" former Catholic, I can say that it is worse than Pentecostal religions.

Imagine having to pick between Amadeus and the K illing Fields or Lawrence of Arabia and To Ki ll a Mockingbird?

To think that Hurt Locker is better than Citizen Kane, the K illing Fields, To K ill a Mockingbird, Dr. Zhivago, Double Indemnity, A Streetcar Named Desire, Love is a many Splendored Thing, the Hustler, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Judgment at Nuremburg, Apocaly pse Now, Chinatown and on and on, none of which won Best Picture and deserving of a prize that Lawrence of Arabia, Amadeus, Bridge on the River Kwai, Million Dollar Baby, The Godfather, American Beauty, All About Eve, Out of Africa, Gone with the Wind won for excellence on all levels of filmaking is just plain ludicrous.

I think it's way passed time to add a category for Comedy.
They really don't stand a chance in winning in anyother category
