Desiree Rogers Makes Appearance At White House Event (PHOTO)

First Posted: 05/09/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:45 PM ET

While the Obamas were flirting rather adorably at Monday's White House event for International Women's Day, social secretary Desiree Rogers was still working. The outgoing secretary--who was voted Washington's Best-Dressed Woman by Huffington Post readers--looked more conservative than she typically does, wearing wide-leg slacks, and a printed top covered by a black jacket. She wore her signature smoky eyes and her cropped hair was a little longer than usual.

Rogers will leave her post sometime this month. Her replacement is Julianna Smoot.

Desiree was her own demise. Clearly she knew what her position existed of and the higher than usual expectations because of her color and level of education. (washington or not, let's be real). She was saddled with unrealistic expectations from the beginning. The Obamas have an historic presidency and no one in their right mind isn't aware how important that will be to everyone concerned. She was under the microscope for many reasons. She is beautiful and naturally sought after by not only the media but many people who would have delighted to bring her down. Of this I am sure. Simply put, she let her guard down. She forgot, she wasn't the only one there. Desiree is known to be alittle short with her staff and quite self centered regarding her opinion. Yet, she does rise to the top when the situation warrants. Her problem being taking the back seat. No she should not have attended Fashion Week in N.Y. there were other ways to get in touch with the social element she may have wanted to invite to the White House. Also, why or what was the reason she would even acknowledge an MTV dinner. The final straw was the cover with her wearing thousands of $'s worth of jewelry and referring to herself as an Obama brand. It smacks of too much arrogance and way too many photo ops. Her position was to do her job behind the scenes not in photo opps.

This time she decided to be staged on the side, not beside the First Lady, like she always does! Good Luck Mrs. Rogers, Hollywood awaits you!!

This is one of the most beautiful, articulate, intelligent and sexy women on the planet. She's my fantasy wife. She brought classy southern diva style to the White House. Who can be mad at that? Oh, i forgot, all of the prudes out there.

This "beautiful, articulate, intelligent and sexy" woman in part put the president and a foreign head of state at risk by not executing previous protocol at a state dinner. Having a taste for the lastest styles does not trump an international incident or a state funeral if a tragedy happened. Thank God it didn't.

The SS in her title stand for social secretary; not secret service.

That is Bull chit. She is being used as a scapegoat. The Secret Service is and always has been in charge of the safety of the President. since 1901. This has not changed

Who really cares. I do think that in several situations she was inappropriate. A social secretary should be seen by her work only. Rodgers spent too much time in the limelight.. She wqs there to work not be at every event.

She may have been doing what was asked of her by the persons who employed her. The list was given to the SS and it was the SS that decided to admit someone not on the list. They could have called her to come and check if they were uncomfortable denying entrance. She always has her phone with her. It was a lapse of security not the planning of a social event.

I LOVE how she dresses. I know she's way over-qualified, but she'd be awesome stylist.

Hardly...when I look at Desiree Rodgers, I don't see a woman of style. I see a woman with a big bank account. She buys an entire outfit and wears it as purchased. That's not stylish, its called having a lot of money. A woman of real style mixes it up...high -low...if you have style, you can put a $50 dollar necklace (the right necklace) on with a $700 suit and look fabulous. I think Ms. Rodgers thinks everything has to be expensive to be worthy of her wearing it....honey any of us with the money can buy an entire outfit and put it on our body as is....again, that's not stylish, its a big bank account.

Good point. I always forget that those with money can do the "whole outfit" thing. Doesn't take any creativity when you can afford everything.

She's not much of a social secretary, but she is an attractive woman with a heck of a resume, who'll do well when she is resituated in a position that suits her talents. Not every accomplished person is suited to every situation in which they find themselves.

Of course she was at this WH event. She probably organized it since she's still employed as the social secretary. Another silly HP article with no author cited.

"APPEARS"

Even IF she was NOT working for the Administration, I will NOT find it THAT surprising to see her at a White House function ...

She has been a family friend for quite a while now ...
09:19 AM on 03/12/2010
But in politics, once you become an employee...the family friend thing takes a back seat...you do not get to behave like a family friend. You behave like an employee of the White House...which means you are a worker like every other White House worker. Remember there are lots of other highly accomplished people working for the President and they are not on the covers of magazines or sitting at fashions shows in NYC in thousand dollar earrings and suits. Why is it so hard for you peopole to understand that this woman need to knock now her need for publicity and to be seen.
I must say, you would also be out of the door in a hot second. You haven't a clue what that job entailed and clearly neither did she.

Love the trousers and the longer short hair. This style really suits her. Hope she's got a great job lined up.

Hold that head up sister. You did fine in my book.

Hear, hear!!!!

Yes she did! Washington was just too intimidated by her style. She will always "rock" in my book!

yes, she should hold her head up. someone had to fall on the sword for the state dinner uninvited guests..........couldn't possibly blame the secret service............
02:57 PM on 03/09/2010
The ones that are happy to see her leave her job, is going to blow a gasket now that she can come back as a guest as opposed to someone working at the Whitehouse. Now she is free to come, sit down and enjoy everything. So the naysayers lose all the way around.
05:42 PM on 03/09/2010
Oh Yeah!!! I'm waiting to hear/read what hater Givaghn has to report lol!!!
09:29 AM on 03/12/2010
Listen, nobody cares if she shows up at the WH as a guest NOW...she just didn't need to be doing it when she was an employee...

True, but the emphasis on Style minimizes more of her relevant accomplishments - Right ?
