Harry Markopolos, an early Madoff whistleblower, was on "The Daily Show" last night to talk to Jon Stewart about his new book, "No One Would Listen." A former securities industry executive, Markopolos discovered that Madoff was running a Ponzi scheme "within five minutes" of seeing his business plan in 2000. He spent the next eight years trying to warn the SEC, who refused to listen to him. Markopolos expressed unbridled anger on the show, throwing insults left and right.
When Stewart asked Markopolos if he thought the SEC had read the letters that he sent them, he responded:
I don't know that they could read it; that takes intelligence.
