Wang Cuyun, Chinese Grandmother, Beaten And Buried Alive By Property Developers

China

Wang Cuyun, a grandmother in Hubei, China, was beaten and buried alive by property developers after trying to protect her home, according to reports.

In an incident last Wednesday, Wang was allegedly beaten, pushed into a ditch, then covered with earth by a bulldozer. Witnesses say three policemen watched the crime but did nothing to help the 70 year old. One witness told Chinese state television that the policemen had "stood around acting like it was none of their business."

Bystanders, including Wang's son, dug her out of the ground, but Wang was already dead.

The case is the latest in a series of events critics say show the callous and violent tactics used by some Chinese property developers hoping to make money. Evictions are mandatory in China, as the government technically owns the land.

"Evictions are often carried out in the middle of the night and without prior notice," a spokesman for Chinese Human Rights Defenders (CHRD) told The Daily Telegraph. "Evictees are rarely, if ever, given any legal aid and some sink into poverty after being evicted from their homes."

Authorities have begun investigating the case, according to China Daily. Li, a director at the local community office, told the paper that during their protests, Wang's family members "laid the woman's body on a street twice, blocked the traffic and gathered crowds for two days."

Sky News reports that news on the death in China has been censored since Friday.

This is a really sad story about the corruption that's going on in China. Due to these incident it smears the names of anything that is done by good people in China. Too easily people just generalize complex issues and say well that's how things are in China, when in truth what was commited is a criminal act and will lead to persecution.

When I read the comments, it made me feel that no financially motivated murders ever occur in the US.

And Americans complain about trivial crap for what? I've always said, if you don't like it here, swap with someone from another country and see how you like it there!

This story is completely gross!

I think there's some no-joke businesspeople in China, question is, just what kind of business is it, that they're in? Organized crime circles the globe, doubtless it is also to be found in China...and one place that mobsters love to do business is real estate. Why? It's lucrative.

Frankly, plowing granny under to make way for progress is an act of naked honesty for some in the industry, in my view. There's some apathetic, amoral, greedy people in this world...and they're no small part of the reason that some countries have very evolved legal systems.

Will the Chinese govt. stand by idly, or will they intervene on behalf of the public/the citizens in cases like this?

We've sold th efarm to China, and they do what they like. There's no stopping them.
I personally and consciously refrain from buying ANYTHING Chinese. My conscience rests a little, and th ebest part is that I never set foot in Wal-Mart!

Coming soon to a street corner near you, I'm afraid. Is the pandemic of foreclosures really that different?

Right if Granny(or Ma Barker) had been armed with her favorite ak-47 she would still be alive? Your logic is not logical. If they wanted her out, she would be out, your being funny, right?

Criminal capitalism is even worse in China than it is in the U.S. Nobody should be calling China a communist country.
02:28 PM on 03/10/2010
What kind of a country is it? It's the Communist regime's practice of killing innocent people for pleasure. It's outrageous! The communist followers try to convince the readers that both China and America are evil nations by comparing what happen in China today with certain events in the history of the U.S. The thugs and rascals.

China is the role model design for the future of US and world.

The Global elite have always been in praise of China.

RIGHT NOW the MAIN STREAM media is promoting the Idea that women have done GREAT under communism.

Don't believe?... look it up.

The Global elite have always been in praise of China? What on earth are you talking about?
03:53 PM on 03/10/2010
This is a decent overview. BTW not the article where I drew my opinion from. There are volumes of documents that validate this overview.

I've looked at the source material myself.

Quote mining the elite is a fascinating endeavor.

Funny how those old quotes from world policy makers line up perfectly with current world events and affairs.

Coincidence?... lol

agendaanalyst - the women in China are doing a hell of a lot better than they were before the communists won. No more bound feet. Education. Food. No endless childbearing. No concubines or second wives. The women of the US have a hard time too. Poverty and still fighting for the right to say what they will do with their own bodies.
