Well, yes, but the Cardinal is arguing that ultimately, it's the celibacy that leads to the perversions, such as sex w/under age boys. We all have sexual urges, and to spend your life denying them leads to these types of situations...for most. I just think that maybe the others are simply pedophiles.

In order to believe that celibacy is causing this problem, one would have to believe that when sex is withheld from men, they will have sex with children if that is what is "available" to them. Do people really believe that normal men are that way? If not, then we have to believe that an incredibly large number of pedophiles are going into the priesthood. Could it be that the church would rather say that celibacy is the problem than to say that a very large number of pedophiles are currently in their organization? This way, they will most likely avoid the prosecution of these criminals.

by the way child sex abuse is also in Islam Judaism but the media never cover them
look at BBC and see in Pakistan in one year there were 2000 cases of child
abuse my Muslim clerics, but the justice mister was threatened by Muslims
and the story got white washed, any remember catch a predator?

Oh come on, "lazerbeam", I think you know, deep down, that pedophiles are quite different from homosexuals. Altarboys get abused more probably because not all churches allow girls to be altar servers. I suspect it is true, though, that the priesthood has been a traditional refuge for some gay catholics, because Aunt Louella is never going to hound you about getting married.

Hom. osex.uality has nothing to do with pedo phil ia. What an awful thing to say. If that were the case, then priests would break their vows with other hom .osex.ual men. Couldn't they just go and knock on the door to the next room? 9 times out of 10, that priest will be gay, too. The catholic church is full of gay men. Unfortunately, it's also full of pedos. One has nothing to do with the other.

Its amazing how Catholic power is able to manipulate the news.

When there's a serial rapist on the loose its on the networks for days
on end and if the guy is black its on even longer. But when a national
gang of holier-than-thou serial rapists get caught and we find them
hidden by a protection racket it makes the news as a series of
apologetics and embarrassments. The media even reports some Jesus
spouting phonies who say that its all mostly Catholic bashing.

The whole lot deserves mega-jail time!

What's so amazing about Catholic sex abuse?

Anyone who knows a lot of Catholics has known about this and heard
from its victims. This isn't only a Catholic problem but one that is
common among all branches of the superstition business celibacy or not. It's like foot
fetishists working in shoe stores and sadists taking jobs as policemen
and jail guards.

Anyone historically informed knows that the Church has been a regular
haven for every sexual practice one can think of. Some years ago the
Catholic Church successfully covered up its Aids problem. It is common
knowledge that many holy men are homosexuals. I have nothing against
this as long as it remains in the limits of the law, which it rarely
does. Many are also hetero.

The nonsense that Catholic Church is presently spouting about this
scandal is a cover-up bound to pacify the immature logical abilities
of the average person who has a lifetime experience of blindly
believing anything their favorite con-operation tells them.

At present the Church is playing for time and will continue to issue
the usual double-talk until its subscribers tire of the matter and
begin to regard further criticism as Catholic bashing. The Church
will succeed at this as it has in the past. Next time they will know
how to better cover their tracks .

Never underestimate the gullibility of the faithful.
