It is really interesting to watch these cyberwars. Google has a motto "Do No Harm" and they are now enormous. People like Google. And here comes Microsoft, the dominator of PC's, trying to hammer Google through Bing. Apple has awesome products, and dominate the MP3 download market, but Amazon is chasing them! Facebook has far surpassed MySpace. And there are all these diverse operating systems!!! And web browsers.

Will it all be ever be ONE? One perfect virus-free operating system sans phishing and spam. One perfect slick super-fast web browser? When will Apples and PCs be able to talk to each fluently?

Why can't all these operating systems just get along?

Three years from now, the dumpsters will be filled with them.

@ Peter_Noble_2 - You didn't ask me, but I'd like to answer :)

I pre-ordered the top level iPad with 3G and wifi.

I was compelled after initially laughing at the device because

1. I'm curious

2. I want to test it before buying my mom one. Because the text is larger, I feel it'll be better for her eyes.

3. I don't want to procrastinate and end up having to wait for new stock if it's sold out.

Not very compelling reasons, but I am counting on the return policy if it doesn't wow me in person, because honestly, I am not even wowed right now.

I love Apple, but am not sold on the iPad. Hopefully having it in my hand and seeing the difference between it and the iPhone/Touch will sell me.

KK you should go to the article where that sales figure was created. It is the most bogus reasoning imaginable. That figure was not something released by Apple. It is the most horrible attempt at statistics imaginable.

Who was it that said "there are lies, damn lies, and statistics."

I didn't buy one, but my business partner did. That's not to say that I don't get one soon. There is a lot of potential here, especially with e-reader and social networking software. I'm psyched about the possibility of global book clubs and reviews. Eventually, the device will improve and we'll be able to have video chats. It should fit nicely between my iMac and smartphone.

I ordered mine. Am eagerly awaiting its arrival. It has enough memory to place more than 10 times all of the books in my library.

Which one is it, 20 000 or 10 000 000 per hour? At least, when they make up the numbers, I would expect them to be a little bit more consistent.

20,000 ipads X $500each = $10,000,000 per hour
(I used my iphone calculator to do the math)

I am glad that they finally put the $ sign in front of 10 000 000!

Did you even bother to read how that guesstimate was arrived at. That is not from Apple, and it's the most bogus reasoning imaginable.

From James Katt

"It means Apple will sell 175.2 MILLION iPads a year. This would be more than the 75 million iPhones and iPod Touches it has thus far sold in 3 years."

Are Apple zealots that excited and that dumb that they believe this hype. And they are surprised that they are called cultists.

I ordered one just to not be left out when it's sold out. But if it's just a big iTouch with no notable difference, I'll return it.

What they forgot to mention is, on release date, 20,000 iPads per hour will be posted in E-bay for a nice markup.

A month later, 40,000 iPads will be available in E-bay for half the price.

Your obviously a layman and not an expert :)
08:29 PM on 03/13/2010
To Layman and others : first u predict (or hope) no sales, then when sales come in u childishly hope they'll be returned or posted on eBay. U guys need to grow up and realize U.S consumers are not pathologically anti-apple as u foolish people are.

Really? I'm a big Apple fan and I'm not buying this underpowered thing that with an AT&T wireless will be a Maxi-iPad with wings.

I'm a content creator, yeah sound fancy doesn't it.. means I'm poor... too poor for toys. I do have an iPhone and love it.

Still I wish Apple well. Maybe they'll pay their Chinese workers a living wage?
09:08 AM on 03/13/2010
I purchased an iPad, but without the ATT 3G option. The phone companies are making too much charging everyone 30 dollars a month or more for each wireless device. I can't see paying more than $1,000 per year to ATT just to check my email and read ebooks.

SteepleAston:
I hope you have fun with the iPad and I agree the WiFi seems the best option.

So what are the top 3 reasons that are compelled you to buy?
What version of the iPad did you purchase?

Thanks

As more and more free wireless networks pop up, 3G/4G will be less necessary for many people. I was in the Burger King on McClellan Air Force Base in California yesterday, and self-jokingly pulled out my iPhone to see if there were any wifi networks available, expecting to see none. To my surprise, up popped "BURGERKINGWIFI", with no password protection. I then surfed the web while chewing on a fish burger. The signal was so strong, I probably could have gotten good reception just outside the restaurant.
