Liz Cheney Group Attacks Eric Holder: 'As If He Doesn't Know We're At War'

Liz Cheney's group, Keep America Safe shot back at U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder's comments on Tuesday that terrorists in court have the same rights as murderers like Charles Manson.

"Putting Charlie Manson in a civilian court didn't endanger any intelligence secrets," Debra Burlingame, a member of the Keep America Safe Board of Directors, told Politico. "When he draws analogies like that, that's when he loses people. It appears as if he doesn't know we're at war."

Burlingame added that terrorist trials aren't "anything like trying Charlie Manson."

Speaking before a House subcommittee on Tuesday, Holder predicted that the U.S. would be reading Miranda rights to the "corpse of Osama bin Laden."

Rep. John Culberson (R-Tex.) asked Holder if he thought that Osama bin Laden had the same rights as Charles Manson.

"Murderers have the same rights as Charles Manson, and if these people are charged with murder, in essence, those are the kinds of rights they would get. A murderer has the right to go before a jury, get the acts that he's charged with proved beyond a reasonable doubt," Holder responded.

The attorney general added of the connection between Manson and bin Laden: "In some ways I think they're comparable people -- In some ways."

"That's incredible," Culberson shot back. "This is where the disconnect between this administration and your mindset is so completely opposite that of where the vast majority of the American people are."

Holder defended his stance, saying that he would "disagree with the characterization that there is a split between America and the leadership of this Administration."

But in her interview with Politico, Keep America Safe's Burlingame disagreed, saying that "comparing the prosecution of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to the trial of Charlie Manson is a perfect example of why the American people have lost confidence in the Holder justice system."
