A new product has crop up on my health-food radar and, frankly, I'm sort of confused. It's bubbly, it's sort of bitter, and it's being heralded as the latest magic bullet for our health. It's Kombucha.

I make my own. Started making it about a year ago after taking a class at our neighborhood coop. It's very easy to make and it costs about $1.50 to make a gallon. I like mine (taste-wise) better than the commercial brands they sell at Whole Foods. My favorite is when I use a tropical green tea. It tastes almost like a fruity champagne.

A couple of the Yogi Tea brand of herbal teas has kombucha extract as one of the ingredients (in addition to green tea). It wasn't bad, but the idea of drinking the kombucha straight just doesn't appeal to me.

I really like Kombucha tea. I have been drinking it for several years. So long as it is made under sanitary conditions and not contain any harmful impurities, it is a very healthy drink. I drink it along with my probiotic yoghurt. I can tell the difference in my GI tract. And, the tea helps the alkalinity of your blood.

It's rather expensive. What I do is keep one bottle opened in the fridge and I sip on it over a 2-3 day period.

The last one of these I tried was the fungi tea.

Till people started having heart attacks from it.

and if you drink enough of it fast enough you get a tiny little buzz off the minute alcohol content.
