New York Times:

The campaign for the Republican nomination for governor was blown wide open on Thursday as the party's presumptive frontrunner, Rick A. Lazio, lost key support after a last-minute entry into the race by a conservative Long Island Democrat.

The Democrat, Steve Levy, was quickly amassing Republican endorsements, just hours after he said he would switch parties and seek the Republican nomination.

Below are emails sent to both the NY Times and Newsday and sent off to turn-coat, Steve Levy:

Dear Editor,

After reading, Democrat Enters N.Y. Governor Race as Republican, I feel as a former Democratic committee member, he stuck a serrated knife into my back along with others. We committee members were charged with carrying petitions so he can get on the ballot for both is election and re-election and he owes us all an apology. As a former committee member, I attended several of his fundraisers and gave over my cash to ensure a Democrat was elected to that seat. Thanks to his lone and selfish decision, we now have a Republican as County Executive. If he is so principled, I say run as a Democrat. Here is hoping that Andrew Cuomo enters the race and trounces him.

Sincerely,

Mary MacElveen

MaryMacElveen Hey, Steve Levy, you are now in the same party as Sarah Palin. How does that feel? Will you reach out to her in order to get elected? 2 minutes ago via web

The so-called Democrat, Steve Levy is pulling a Lieberman/ Bloomberg trick. None of the aforementioned really care/d about political affiliation, or citizens they represent. It’s not about solving social, economic or any other type of civic issues. The goal is power and advancement of their personal interests. I hope no one supports this unethical cipher.
