A man was shot and killed by police as he held a 6-year-old boy at knifepoint in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood, officials said.
Officers ordered Quentin Green to drop the knife and release the child, but he refused and tried to cut the child's throat, police said. An officer opened fire and struck Green in the chest, police said.
Before the shooting, Green forced the boy's mother out of the apartment and took three of her children, all boys, hostage, police said. He then threatened to kill the 6-year-old, police said.
