Lockhart Steele: NYT Magazine Profiles Curbed Founder

In May 2004, Steele corralled his real estate posts onto a new site he called Curbed.com. The next year, Steele broke restaurants away to form Eater.com, a site he founded with Ben Leventhal, who now works for NBC; in 2007, shopping news moved to Racked.com. Since then, Curbed has also expanded to the Hamptons, Los Angeles and San Francisco; Racked is in Los Angeles as well as New York; Eater is in five cities, including Miami and Portland, Ore.; and a blog for travelers, Gridskipper, has joined the empire.
