Erin Andrews' 'Dancing With The Stars' Premiere Performance (VIDEO)

First Posted: 05/23/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:55 PM ET

A new season of "Dancing with the Stars" kicked off last night and ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews was among the contestants. Andrews and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy scored a 21, an impressive score but not the highest of the night. (She was edged by gold medal figure skater and possibly single Evan Lysacek, among others.) Before the show began, Andrews made it clear she is taking the competition seriously. Following its airing last night, she took to Twitter (which she only recently joined) and told her followers that "My feet are killing me!! But I had blast!!" Scroll down to see Andrews' performance.

Quick Poll

Erin Andrews' debut performance was...

Great! And she'll only get better with time.

Needs a lot of improvement.

Seems like recent events have alerted her that people are interested in seeing some skin.

There is something attractive about some (not all, but SOME) of these reality shows.

I mean, look at this show. It turns coal into diamonds, is what it does. Dancing involves true skill. It's physically demanding and requires a lot of time and practice. Most of all, it requires grace, which is more difficult to pull off - if you don't believe me, just look at when Billy Ray Cyrus was on this show - he memorized the dance moves, but he just stomped and flailed. There wasn't a single graceful bone in his body.

I think shows like these are transformational and inspirational. It takes people who have no dancing ability and turns a few of them into professional-quality dancers before it's all over. They work and sweat at it, too. They learn poise, grace, and how to move their bodies in a deliberate way.

And the thing is, if a sportscaster can do it, if a football player, or a woman with one leg, or an old man/woman - the inspiration here is that if they can learn to dance, you and I just might be able to as well, and maybe if we work hard at it, we can get really good.

Most reality shows appeal to the worst parts of us, the parts that love gossip and drama and people who fail at life. Shows like this appeal to the best parts of us - the parts that celebrate the results of hard work.

So now sportscasters dancing is sports news?

Geez folks - it's not my favorite show either - but it's week 1 - if you put most people here on tv, live audience, millions watching on tv, with a professional partner and 3 people who are gonna critique you and make you dance - you'd be 'stiff' too. Me? I'd probably pass out in pure panic.

Why isn't she naked?

Her outfit was a distraction the whole time. I thought she was a giant whisk, mixing up scrambled eggs for Niecy.

They are well known for being well known, and not a whole lot more.

As Nicole rightly pointed out, comparing this kind of dancing to booty shaking is an exercise in futility. What they are asked to do goes far beyond hip grinding and chest thumping. Mya is an accomplished R&B performer who has danced in many of her videos but she didn't win the competition as I suspect Nicole won't as well (though I hope she does). The people voting seem to hold it against those females who have "danced" in some form or another.

I'm not judging her dancing (me with 2 left feet) but she hasn't shown more skin since...never mind.
