A Logan County man, Gilbert Dean Schuman, 57, was arrested after authorities found 79 cattle carcasses on his ranch property last week.
The Associated Press reports that Sheriff's deputies searched his property after an anonymous tip. Deputies found carcasses in a livestock pond and hidden under mounds of hay.
Investigators are still trying to determine how the 79 cattle died.
Live cattle on the ranch were also found in very poor condition. According to a Logan County Sheriff's Office press release, 16 of Schuman's animals were confiscated and taken to the Sterling Livestock Commission Company.
Schuman has been charged with 16 counts of animal cruelty and is being held on a $5,000 bond. He is due in court March 29.
