Roy Sekoff Compares VP F-Bombs: Biden's 'A Lot Better' Than Cheney's

Huffpost editor Roy Sekoff joined David Frum, a former Bush speechwriter, on "The Joy Behar Show" Tuesday to discuss consequences for Democrats and Republicans in the wake of health care reform's passage.

Sekoff began by telling Joy that Vice President Joe Biden's use of the word "fuck" Tuesday was "a lot better" than former Vice President Dick Cheney's use of the word. In 2004 in the Senate, Cheney swore at Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.).

Sekoff told Behar that he believes that Republicans' anti-reform stance might hurt the party in November elections. "You know, i think there's going to definitely be some blowback when people go 'Wait a minute. This isn't socialism. This isn't the govenrnment taking over my health care and in fact, I kind of like some elements of this."

Sekoff said that the GOP's embrace of tea party protesters could also hurt the party. "There's always been a fringe element in any party. But the lunatics have now taken over the asylum. We're seeing this kind of inflammatory rhetoric coming from the leaders. We have John Boehner saying that it's gonna be armageddon. I mean, that's like the little boy who cried Wolf Blitzer."

Correct on the intent, though....
i've always told my children from when they were little until they became adults,
"they're only words... what's important is when, where and how they are used...

I've said this before, majority of us do not think highly of those who choose to complaining about everything with no alternative ideas. The Republican leadership has started down a path of no return. Notice that if anyone in their party appears to be moderate in his/her view, they get scolded and challenged by their leadership who is Rush, hanity, malkin & tea baggers. The country will remember this at the end of the day. The Tea Party alone can't bring victory...especially on a national scale.

This word no longer carries the same shock value it once did, its more of an adjective, pronoun, (ad)verb, ect. Its just a word. Maybe if they get it, get over themselves and their faux puratism, they can stop trying to drag us backwards to the 50's so we can get on with moving forward into the 21st century, before we're left behind, stuck in limbo, quickly becoming irrelevant.

MY goodness. Why do people have to make a federal case out of this.

Watching David Frum backpedal from his Republican league of thuggery is almost laughable.

Why does this matter? It's a word, it can't hurt anyone. Not even children who may overhear because let's be honest, parents of all sorts are not immune to letting a few swear words fly.

It's not a story, HP. Quit feeding the flames.

Everything about Biden is a lot better than Cheney
09:07 AM on 03/24/2010
The difference between Biden and Cheney is that Cheney did so in a personal way directing his comment directly at a colleague Leahy on the floor.

Biden seemed to be unaware that the microphone was that sensitive.

He made his comment aside with his face away from the camera and it was clear Biden thought only the President could hear it.

The same when Bush didn't realize his microphone was on when talking to Tony Blair.

"But the lunatics have now taken over the asylum."

I could not have phrased that statement any better than Roy Sekoff did, in as far as where the GOP are concerned. He nailed it.

I totally agree with you!

The statement was well phrased, but it was hardly original. It's a common expression.

In context, the Biden flap is so trivial it's hardly worth discussing.

I've really got to hand it to David From for have the courage to come out and be the lone dog Republican to speak any sense. Poor guy, he might actually have to become a Democrat.

He needs to stay with the Republican Party to assist with its reformation from a reality TV show to a conservative political party.
It's time for Bob Dole, Lindsey Graham and the some of the other true conservatives to join with Frum to pull their party back from the brink. Senator McCain is now irrelevant. He has dealt himself out of the conservative pack - he's now well and truly shuffling in the silly deck.

Mr Frum is Glen Beck.
Mr Frum just doesn't want to admit it.

Cheney's usage expressed hatred and contempt (and was spoken publically) whereas Biden's was an expression of joy and not meant for an open mike (though you'd figure Biden would think first...what the hell am *I* thinking? This is Biden).

I feel the Healthcare bill, as much as congressional members on both sides bowed to industry lobbyists, is fan-freaking-tastic.

And this is only the beginning. Next stop, comrades - Totalitarianism!

How can I get on a death panel and whose granny do we kill 1st?

The RepubTea party's attempt to characterize Obama as Hitler only reveals how ignorant they are of the Nazi history. Hitler rose to power on the backs of the S.A. Storm Troopers. thugs that shouted down dissenters at public meetings, beat up and killed Jews, burned books and terrorized innocent civilians. They intimidated and succeeded in repressing Democracy in the Hindenberg Govt and ultimately led to the collapse of the REpublic and the seizure of the nation by Hitler and the Nazi Party.

The brutal and thuggish tactics used by the GOP and Tea Party are as unAmerican as can be imagined. They represent an appeal to emotion and a hostility toward intelligence.

It is Obama's will and mastery of organizational campaign that scares this mob. Obama has shown he cant turn things around and Pelosi has shown a political style rivaling Sam Rayburn as House Speaker. Her effectiveness untimidates Republicans who have relied on airhead women to speak for them . It is fitting that the repugs suffer defeat at the hands of their chosen opponents.

Did you mean that Obama can turn things around (you wrote can't)?
