Work-related Facebook mishaps usually involve employees posting inappropriate or incriminating material to the site.
In the case of 16-year-old Chelsea Taylor, it appears it may have been her employer who was behaving badly.
The teen, who had a weekend job at a cafe called Cookies, was fired via Facebook by her manager, Elaine Sutton, who posted an error-laden message to Taylor's Facebook page notifying the teen she had been let go for losing a ten-pound note while running an errand for her fellow workers.
According to the Daily Mail, Sutton's message read:
Hiya Chelsea its Elaine from work. Sorry to send u a message like this but bin tryin to ring u but gettin no joy. I had to tell the owner bout u losin that tenner coz obviously the till was down at the end of day. she wasn't very pleased at all and despite me trying to persuade her otherwise she said I have to let u go. I'm really sorry.'
Taylor replied with a simple 'oki x,' then, two days later, posted the following message:
mum been to papers, she totally disgusted with what the cafe done to me i offered t paay it back i was sorry and not to be given a chance well i hope you loose lods of custom and the world will get round....wish i never left bradshawgate cafe.nyway
Taylor's mother had harsh words for Cookies: 'To sack a young worker via Facebook is appalling and heartless - and way it was written was dreadful,' she told the Daily Mail. 'I just can't believe they didn't even have the decency to tell her over the phone, let alone in person. [...] And to have the message all mis-spelt with capital letters and apostrophes missing is simply disrespectful and sets no example to other employees.'
The teen's mother also notes that her daughter had offered to repay the lost money: 'She was mortified when she realised she had lost the money. I offered to replace the money but the manager reassured us it was all fine,' the Mirror reports.The Mirror notes that Taylor's Facebook dismissal may be a 'UK first.'
