Latino Group Pushes Petition To End Tea Party Hate-Spewing (VIDEO)

During the health care debate on Saturday, Tea Party protesters hurled racist and homophobic epithets at House Democrats. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) was spat on by a protester, Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), a civil rights icon, was called a 'ni--er,' and openly gay Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) was called a "fa---t" and heckled with deliberately lisp-y screams.

On Wednesday, a Latino Facebook group called "Cuéntame" posted a video documenting the Tea Party hate-spewing, and asked viewers to sign an online petition to the leaders of the Republican party asking them to apologize for egging on abusive protesters.

The video, produced by Brave New Foundation, shows Republican lawmakers waving signs from a balcony and applauding the crowd of Tea Party protesters as they shout racial and homophobic slurs.

"The Republican Party needs to distance themselves from this kind of behavior," Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) says in the video. "I am calling upon Mr. Speaker that the Republicans who have supported this movement come out and condemn this Tea Party. It is unacceptable."

I have read a little about the founding fathers, and I wonder when they formed the policies of USA, did they speak to each other in this manner? Have a feeling (without being able to prove it) that the civil behavior of some politicians has declined over the years instead of improve as would be natural to expect.

Tea Party=McCain rallies:

The hatred and vitriol that's so loud now, the opening acts of violence, are not spill over from some self-emergent group that's just now getting out of control. This started in the campaign, with the McCain campaign and organized effort at the local level.

In California you had the Sacramento County GOP putting "Wat.erbo.ard Obama" on their website, in Virginia you had Bobby May, a local Repub leader writing a blatantly racist op ed piece, etc. etc. You had McCain rallies being opened by the likes of Arnold Conrad praying that god give McCain a win to protect 'our' god's reputation against those who prayed to 'their' gods for Obama to win. Of course, the McCampaign was careful to make sure that none of that went on while national cameras were rolling. When that woman told McCain that Obama was 'an Arab,' the look of horror on McCain's face was only because it was being caught on tape. There is no WAY the content of what she was saying was a surprise to him, considering the tenor of his rallies generally.

This is the result of a concentrated effort, the final logical extension of atwater, rove and political strategy based on the culture wars and wedge issues after they'd exhausted everything but racism and mcarthyism. This time, they may have put the match in the wrong hands though, their tent is just as likely to get burnt down as anybody's.

Nice try. Of course,there are fringe elements on both sides, and no reasonable person disputes that. I'm not talking about the mere existence of that element on the right, I'm talking about the GOP actively courting, fostering and encouraging that element. Where's the official democrat party communication that's the equivalent to "wate.r.b.oard obama?" The democratic official writing an op ed piece that's equivalent to Boby May's piece? The equivalent to a national presidential candidate having a rally opened by a prayer that basically said the other guy has a different god rooting for him? The demo v.p candidate talking about representing the real America? The equivalent to a dem statesman asking for an investigation into a republican's birth? The real abuse is the Democrat party ramming the health care bill through Congress by using the corrupt practice of "reconciliation". The Constitutional method would be to let the House of Representatives pass it's own bill and then let it go back to the Senate for debate and a full vote by that body.
