Allison Meyers FIRED: RNC Young Eagles Program Director Terminated Over Night Club Expenses

The RNC has fired Allison Meyers, director of the group's "Young Eagles" program, in the wake of Monday's news that she had approved the reimbursement of a hefty tab racked up at a bondage-themed L.A. nightclub.

The event was expensed for nearly $2,000. Some members of the GOP had already called for the resignation of RNC Chairman Michael Steele, who reportedly did not attend and was unaware of the incident.

Meyers has headed the RNC young donors cultivation project since February 2009, according to her LinkedIn profile.

An internal email about the staffer termination, written by RNC Chief of Staff Ken McKay, was obtained by Politico:

"This was not an RNC sanctioned event and was not associated in any way with any RNC official event," McKay wrote of the February outing to Voyeur, a West Hollywood club modeled after the risqué Tom Cruise-Nicole Kidman movie "Eyes Wide Shut."

The late-night excursion followed an official RNC event in Los Angeles for donors in its "Young Eagles" program, McKay wrote, stressing that neither Chairman Michael Steele nor any senior staff were aware of either the outing or the committee's reimbursement of the cost.

The cost of the festivities was initially covered by a Republican donor and paid back by the RNC. According to the memo, the man has verbally agreed to repay the repayment. The Washington Post reports:

The reimbursement went to Erik Brown, a Southern California GOP donor who has spent time with Steele in the past and whose marketing firm has earned more than $160,000 from the RNC and other Republican committees, according to campaign disclosure records.

It's unclear if these actions will be enough to appease the Republicans who were calling for a pound of flesh earlier on Monday. As reported by the Huffington Post, Douglas MacKinnon, former press secretary to Majority Leader Robert Dole, had harsh words for the RNC's top man.

"No matter which side of the aisle you find yourself, if you are giving a political party your hard-earned money, you should have no doubts that it is going to be spent as advertised and not to provide a spoiled, egocentric, out-of-touch chairman with frivolous luxuries which are out of reach of the vast majority of the American people. Michael Steele needs to resign and let the RNC vote in a man or woman who understands that his or her needs do not come before the needs of the nation or the party."

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow mentioned HuffPost's coverage during her show on Monday night, and went on to skewer Steele over his tenure as RNC Chairman. She also shared a few laughs about the 'naked lady place' scandal with GQ's Ana Marie Cox.

Adam J. Rose contributed reporting.

Let's see...the party of family values brought a largely male group of donors to a club in which women dance simulate lesbian sex, bondage and discipline, and and dance nearly naked. Then, when the evening comes to light, it fires the relatively low-level staffer who set it up.

Yup, that's the Republicans, all right.

I have to admit it is good to see Republicans shooting themselves in the foot (and other parts) for a change! Dems have always been sooo good at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Seems it's catching! Probably because Republicans have been so distracted by the noise in their heads as they screech their talking points.

Awesome. The Republican Finger of Blame, ever turning like a political version of spin the bottle.

Does it stop on potential high rolling male donors who wanted to go spend RNC in a strip club? Of course not. They fire the woman whose job it was to reimburse them.

Stay classy, Republicans.

A last ditch effort to keep up appearances. This is what the political elite are doing with your tax dollars and campaign contributions.

Guess what's next?

I think it is WRONG to fire this staffer. Her heart was in the right place, she just wasn't detail oriented enough. She was supposed to find a club with a water-boarding motif, but clearly, she said to herself: "Well torture is torture."

Finally, the MSM can no longer deliberately ignore this incident. After days of conspicuous silence, this was one of the 2 lead stories this morning on the NBC Today Show (the other being the Rhode Island flooding). While reporting the basic facts & the potential problems for Steele, they suggested the largest issue was financial as some were withholding donations. Strangely, it was not about the much more relevant matter of abject hypocrisy & un-family values conduct.

I want to know who these "Young Eagles" are that attended.
