Anshonae Mills, Santonio Holmes' Accuser (MORE DETAILS)

Anshonae Mills Santonio Holmes Accuser Pictures

It was reported yesterday that Santonio Holmes has been sued for allegedly throwing a glass at a woman and cutting her near the eye. According to the lawsuit, the incident took place at an Orlando nightclub and Holmes tried to pay his victim in exchange for not pressing charges.

While details were initially scant, more information has begun to trickle out. Anshonae Mills is the woman who is suing the Super Bowl MVP, and as SportsByBrooks and Busted Coverage have found, she has an online presence.

A profile at BlackPlanet.com that appears to be several years old includes pictures of Mills. According to her profile, she has a "contagious personality," is an "adrenaline junky" and is "not usually a b*tch, but i can be." What gets on her nerves? "Lame people." At the time she wrote her profile description (which, again, appears to be back in 2007), the woman who is now apparently suing Holmes for $15,000 said, "I love money."

The lawsuit against Holmes comes at a particularly poor time for the Steelers. The team's quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, was recently accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Georgia, the second such accusation he has faced. While the situation continues to develop, both NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin are concerned by the pattern.

Initially, I read a report in which the guy said someone else threw the glass at her, so I waited. If it were this man who threw a glass at this young lady, he should be dropped from the team. That's a real scumball thing to do.

remember when men would volunteer to give up their seat for an attractive lady WIthout smashing them in the face with highball glass?call me nostalgic.

She is one georgeous lady. Whatever the circumstances which lead to her being injured, the gentleman should sincerely apologize. He also should compensate her for the injury she suffered, even if he is not strictly liable in Law. Otherwise he will be seen as an ignorant uncivilized "jock". Lesson learned: Do not throw objects! Unless it is a football on the ballfield.

Gold diggers run amok...to all pro athletes, you are not above playing by the rules...play with fire and you will get burned. Most women will only pretend to like you for your big wallets and nothing else. Wise up.

Exactly.

I will not say one word about the girl in GA until the police issue a report. She's earned that respect by going to the police.

I guess this woman doesn't care if a violent and dangerous man walks free as long as she gets paid first?
05:24 PM on 03/30/2010
She tried to. It wasn't stated in this particular article, but she claims that BOTH the police officer who responded to the call and Holmes pressured her into not bringing charges. At this point, a civil lawsuit might be her only recourse. And the responding police officer should be investigated.

There's nothing stopping her RIGHT Now from walking into a police station and pressing charges. And file a formal complaint against the officer. Instead she hires a civil suit lawyer? Plus, not only is the lack of criminal undermines her creditability so does the lack of complaint or lawsuit against police. Would you pass on having the state investigate on your behalf if you were in similar circumstance.

The smart money would be on James Harrison, but it wouldn't be next, in his case, it would be again, so...

I'll go with Casey Hampton. Smacks a woman at a buffet who takes the last biscuit.

If it's Troy Polamalu, then the Mayans were right.

Until the police either press charges or decline to press charges against Ben, I will not say one word about his accuser in Georgia. She went to the police and filed a criminal complaint.

But this woman?

Let's say Holmes did this? She is ok with a violent man going free as long as she gets paid?

If you don't file a criminal complaint, you should not be allowed to sue in civil court.
03:18 PM on 03/30/2010
How would that work exactly? Would it apply to all tort claims asserted in a civil lawsuit? What if the behavior alleged is not criminal? If you would only impose this requirement for "criminal" behavior - you would require civil plaintiffs do made a layperson's determination regarding whether behavior is criminal or not (a determination that they would almost always have to make on their own, without the assistance of counsel, immediately following the incident in question)? Do you want to clog the criminal justice system with complaints about minor fender-benders and other such incidents, filed by individuals who are attempting to preserve their rights to file a civil suit?

The criminal and civil justice systems employ different standards of proof, rules of evidence, Constitutional standards, etc., etc., etc. They are seperate for good and legitimate reasons, and should remain seperate.

Wash, PA huh...

No, criminal behavior only...and here is how the lay person would know to file a criminal complaint...

the ATTORNEY they hire to file the civil suit, which they somehow managed to do...would inform them of this obligation.

They could file criminal charges today. As could Andrea McNulty...they chose not to...

If a DA decides not to press forward, their complaint is still on file, and they could proceed to seek justice through a civil suit.
12:42 AM on 03/31/2010
Obviously, this woman knew she had an option to file criminal charges, so none of your questions are actually relevant . While I would not go as far as to make criminal charges a prerequisite to a civil case. Defendants should be asked why they didn't file in civil suit and their answers should have heavy bearing on their creditability. If someone committed a crime against me I would want them behind bars and while in a few instances like suffering from trauma it makes sense. The fact is overall IT IS AN ISSUE.
This case just doesn't add up she says she was bullied by a cop, yet never filed a complaint against the officer. In doing so she could have exercised her right and press charges. TODAY. And civil suit juries should consider this. and also you claim the original poster's idea would clog our system. Hate to be the one to tell you but the system has been clog for awhile now with cases exactly like this one.(BS Civil Suits)

Steelers have problems, look at Any Reid's kids and their behavior, now his team is acting stupid, dangerous and possibly assaulting women. What is it about Andy Reid that causes this kind of behavior? Dudes, you are 250 +/- athletes, do NOT grab, manipulate, hit, slap, kick women you idiots. Stay out of cheesy bars, stay away from cheesy women. That's it.
