NEW YORK (Associated Press) -- Citigroup Inc. on Tuesday named a New York City deputy mayor as the head of its global public affairs.

In the newly created position, Citi said Edward Skyler will serve as executive vice president in charge of internal and external communications. He will also share leadership of government affairs and investor relations.

Skyler, the youngest deputy mayor in New York City history, rose rapidly through the ranks of city government and was deputy press secretary to Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Working largely in the background, he managed some of the most critical city departments, from the police to Sanitation and Transportation. Skyler garnered the spotlight only briefly last year when he tackled a mugger in midtown Manhattan.

Skyler, 36, reports to Citi CEO Vikram Pandit.

He will start his new position in early May.

lollll...ayup....that Bloomberg is just thinking of "ordinary people" with his sudden claim that Obama doesn't do enough on gun control.

Couldn't have ANYTHING to do with the fact that their abuse of the American people has made bankers some of the most hated people in America...

Considering "ordinary people" are the main targets of violence in NYC... I am willing to give Bloomberg the benefit of the doubt.
