WWD caught up with actress and fashionista Emma Watson last Thursday and asked her a very serious, thought-provoking question: What defines British style? Watson had this to say:

I think [British style] has to do with the weather. We have terrible weather. It's very gray and drizzly so we need things to cheer us up. And I think that leads to a lot of creativity and color, and I think that's why our designers are so innovative. Because at home we're kind of up against the elements in a sense. And we need cheering up. I think we do very well with kind of an eclectic mix. We have great vintage and we love to mix and match: high street and high fashion, vintage...and I think that really defines it as well.

She's so intelligent. That explanation just made it all make so much sense. Obviously the British would have to be more creative, because they don't really have 4 seasons like a lot of other countries. Emma's response can be used to explain the fashion differences in all regions and countries not just England. It's because of the weather. I'm sure culture has a lot to do with it too, but the weather plays a huge role in what we decide to wear.
