Lisa Connell, Woman Dying Of Brain Tumor, Auctions Off Dates For Cancer Charities

First Posted: 05/30/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:00 PM ET

In 2006, London resident Lisa Connell was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Now, four years later, Connell still has no idea when her deadly disease will claim her life, whether it's a matter of months or years.

The courageous 30-year-old has turned her personal pain into an inventive way to raise money for charity. Connell has started RentADateForCharity.com, a website on which potential suitors can bid to take her out on a date. The funds she raises are donated to brain cancer charities in the U.K. So far, Connell has been on 30 fundraising dates and raised over $27,000.

The ultimate goal is to raise one million pounds. Sixty percent of the date proceeds currently go to brain cancer research; the rest is used for administrative costs.

WE HAVE A RIGHT TO LIFE. It shouldnt be CHARITY. CHARITY NEVER WORKS.

IT NEVER HAS, IT NEVER WILL.

Charity ebbs and flows according to the economic times. More money in good times, less in bad times. Cancer does not ebb and flow. So, according to the "Charity" model, people die in economic bad times, like now. Thats not accepable.

The government should provide ALL ITS CITIZENS THE RIGHT TO LIFE through GOVERNMENT SPONSORED HOSPITALS AND DOCTORS, with NO EXPENCE SPARED, just like the kind of medical treatment I recieved when I was the beneficiary of Socialized-Government run healthcare: The Naval Hospitals at the Marine Corps Air Stations I was assigned to for my 4 years of active duty service. It worked fine. Saved my life twice, as a matter of fact....and NO BILLS ever came to my mailbox. Good enough for me, good enough for all Americans.

Make it happen, America. Quit being PUNKED by the rich guys.

That is the most pathetic and embarassing thing i've ever read. What kind of country gives a blank check to its military and makes cancer patients prostitute themselves out so that the medical institutions can continue running?

In ENGLAND they have GOVERNMENT SUPPORTED, BLANK CHECK MEDICAL COVERAGE.
In the ENTIRE REST OF THE CIVILIZED WORLD they have GOVERNMENT HEALTH-CARE. No one has to pimp themselves out for money.

I swear, when are we going to start voting for our best interests, instead of the interests of the RICH and the POWERFUL INSURANCE COMPANIES? ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS DEMAND HEALTH INSURANCE AND ITS OURS.

COME ON AMERICA. FIGHT!

what she's doing is really terrific, but 40% is going to administrative costs? that seems really high to me.
