How To Fix Cnn

Politico:

The future of CNN, never exactly bright the past couple of years, suddenly looked dire this week when ratings came out showing a 40 percent decline in prime time viewers since 2009.

...

CNN: Stop trying to be the Teabagger Network, they are never going to stop watching Faux Noise, plus you have black people on your network and they are not going to a watch a show with blacks. Also get rid of Campbell Brown, and you will already have a better network.

As soon as they start trying to be Fox jr, that sent the station into a downward spiral that they can't seem to break.

The original focus on presenting news as it unfolds has been lost. They seem to think that cutting up a news event and stringing it together with fact checking conversation in between will make them successful. CNN used to be the station where raw news dominated and you didn't know what to expect from minute to minute. This is a kind of reality TV. Now, the talking heads try to manage the news story. The historic Obama health care meeting with Congress is a good example. Why all the cut aways? If you want to analyze the event, you will directly compete with Fox and you better have an agenda. Otherwise, you will lose the attention of your audience if your intention is to inform rather than to promote a point of view. This is the Fox model, which is successful today. It seems that the business managers at CNN have lost their way.

I say CNN should still report news as that is it's bread and butter but in addition they should report on political fact checking and point out the political hypocrisy of each political party on an ongoing basis.

Get rid of Blitzer, King and C. Brown. Bring back some real journalists who can think on their own. How about Aaron Brown...he was sometimes caustic but he was credible and he was good. Elevate some of the lesser "journalists" that are on at other times.

How about CNN hire actual journalists. That do their job. Now THAT would be a novel concept.

Sure, that IS what Politico would say. They are so wing-nutty that they would love Crossfire. They would love it if even more if the ding-batty Lynn Cheney would pick up her old spot on that program too, but I doubt if THAT would increase the ratings for CNN. In fact, it would chase more people away from that ever increasing right-wingnutty network and lower their ratings even lower than they now are. Hopefully, Politico will follow CNN's lead and go down the drain too. There are enough right wing media outlets in this country. What we need are more left leaning outlets. I can barely tolerate watching TV these days. When I do, it certainly is not CNN!

CNN's problem is that of all the major media except Fox News--they lean left but, since everybody around them leans left, they think they are middle-of-the-road centrists!

I don't think that bringing back a 1980s-era food-fight talk show would help CNN one bit. "Crossfire" consisted of nothing but 4 people all yelling at once and was sickening to watch.

Wolf Blitzer's low, droning monotone is sinking the network with every boring second that passes.
