'Eat, Sleep, Poop': A Pediatrician Talks About The Switch From Doctor To Dad (VIDEO)

First Posted: 06/02/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:00 PM ET

Pediatrician and new father Dr. Scott Cohen has a new book out called "Eat, Sleep, Poop," about the challenges of going from doctor to dad, and how fatherhood made him think twice about issues that had been obvious to him before having a child. On "Good Morning America," Cohen talked about sleep training and vaccines in particular, and how he was able to understand the perspective of worried or reluctant parents so much more when he was in their shoes.

The book, he says, explains the mistakes he made as a first time parent, and explains his new approach to parenting: the "informed common sense" approach. Parents are overloaded with information, he says, and they need to be able to sort through everything in a way that makes sense to them.

My first pediatrician for my kids was a parent, but she worked so much she was never with them herself, so it was like dealing with someone who had only book-learnin to draw upon. Love it.

Wow, new dad learns about parenting from having a baby! First pediatrician to ever have a baby. Write a book. People are such narcissists these days.
