It's National STD Awareness Month--and Illinois residents should think about getting tested.
According to the the Illinois Department of Public Health, Illinois ranked eighth in the nation for the rate of gonorrhea cases and ninth for the rate of chlamydia cases in 2008, the Associated Press reports.
The department is distributing "Get Yourself Talking, Get Yourself Tested" toolkits to STD clinics and school-based health centers around the state, the AP reports.
Ways to reduce the risk of contracting an STD? Abstinence, reducing the number of people you have sex with and "consistent and correct" use of condoms or dental dams.
